@nprofile…2r82 @nprofile…re22 I absolutely think hiring on a trial basis would help a lot. We actually did that for some candidates at the same company, but they were generally coming right out of boot camps. I wonder if you'd get a lot of push back from seniors with senior-level egos.

@nprofile…2r82 heh we took this guy out to lunch too! I will say, he seemed a little stand-offish but we all chalked it up to nerves. Looking back tho...
I think it was only engineers at lunch. I love the idea of having the candidate eat with non-technical folks!

@nprofile…2r82 oh I'm not even talking about the technical side of things. At a previous company we hired this guy who did very well during the interview (good coder, etc) but who ended up being an egotistical prick we fired like 3 months later. He was a good engineer, but impossible to work with. None of us perceived that until after he was hired and we worked with him on actual projects.

@nprofile…2r82 hiring engineers is hard also because hiring the wrong person can be quite costly, and getting enough signal in a short period of time (the interview process) can be nigh impossible.

@npub12y8…6qtl @npub1w7a…tpn3 @npub1upk…tcwy yes! I just recently learned about --force-with-lease, it's definitely been useful. However, I'm more of a merge person. No endless conflicts or pushing over someone else's work. Plus, if you follow a main + feature branches strategy, merge commits are your opportunity to describe the changes as a whole, i.e. no need for a bunch of little commit messages.
