@nprofile…wkk2 @nprofile…qz4x Not only is this poor failure handling on the engineering side, it highlights a further issue: the attitude of "it doesn't matter, we'll refund the users if it happens" forgets that failures are likely to lead to consequential losses and even physical danger - or ignores that because of a click-through get-out clause

@npub1xd7…k3dj @npub1hyk…3p33 The switch from Gchat to Hangouts was a landmark moment in Googles enshittifcation - in hindsight. We ran the lab over Gchat (now we have to use Teams, in an indication of how bad things have got)

I have seen such digital displays on big supermarket shelves in France, but changing the pricing while the shop was open would be legally problematic as a form of false advertising by putting the price up between when you pick up an item and when you get to the till.
Funnily enough, similar large French supermarkets have been known to employ staff on rollerskates to back up the checkout staff, but not an army, barely even enough for a squad.

"open one website" _really_badly_. Even the Wikipedia app felt awfully restrictive compared to using the website in Firefox. I trust them a similar amount to Mozilla when it comes to privacy, so was willing to give it more of a go than other things that I can choose to use on mobile web
