Today’s game is Phasmophobia. Me and my Friend decided to celebrate finishing our midterms by playing this.
We found out we actually have turn on the motion sensors, and then i watched my friend stumbler out into the front yard and get choked to death (I took a photo of the ghost while it happening and got some extra cash though! So really who won?).
In another job my friend was bitching me out for taking photos because they’re “useless”. Jokes on him though because the $12 dollars we got after failing to guess right came from my photos of the sink.

All the racist stuff and culture war BS is a distraction. Economists studied the data and found republicans are bad for the economy, which is what everyone who’s lives through their policies would tell you. They help out their wealthy donors, which is why they get the “good for economy” label but that’s a lie and myth.
Many analyses look at which party is best for the economy. A study from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that Democratic presidents since World War II have performed much better than Republicans. On average, Democratic presidents grew the economy by 4.4% each year versus 2.5% for Republicans.
Republicans are just bad at running the country on so many levels.

Weird visual glitch on KDE

Hey everyone,
I’ve been experiencing a really strange visual glitch on KDE Plasma (6.1) running Wayland on Arch Linux, and it happens across various Proton versions and games, though it’s especially frequent in Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Origins. I’m hoping someone has come across this issue or has some advice on how to fix it!
When opening certain in-game elements like menus, the entire desktop gets covered with a small, dotted grid-like pattern.
This affects the whole screen, not just the game window.
It only ever affects the screen that the game is running on, never my second one.

If I move another window (like a browser or file manager) over the game,
that window becomes partially see-through, revealing the game underneath.

After exiting the game, parts of the game image linger on the screen and are, dimly visible as if it’s “burned” in.

The glitch appears and disappears randomly, even while the game is still running, regardless of whether the window is in focus or not.
It mostly happens when opening in game menus or overlays.
Rebooting fixes the issue, but it reappears after playing certain Proton games.
Turning the monitor off and on doesn’t fix it.
While this glitch is active, I sometimes get random brightness flashes, almost like a strobe effect. The flashing stops and starts randomly, as long as the grid pattern is visible.
If I take a screenshot while the glitch is happening, the visual bug (grid pattern and shine-through) does not show up in the screenshot. The image looks perfectly normal. So all pics are shot with my phone camera.
I’ve looked through the Proton and system logs but can’t find anything that stands out to me (though I’m not an expert). I’ve also searched online quite a bit but couldn’t find anything that looked similar to my issue.
I’m running KDE Plasma 6.1 (Wayland) on Arch with nvidia-open-560 drivers.
I’d appreciate any help or ideas on troubleshooting this further!

After several days of camping on the street and relieving herself outside, Herrera began to itch uncontrollably with an infection. She worried: Would it imperil her baby?
She was seeing doctors and social workers at a Denver hospital where she planned to give birth because they served everyone, even those without insurance. They were alarmed their pregnant patient was now sleeping outside in the cold.
Days after she was forced to leave the Microtel, Denver paused its policy and allowed homeless immigrants to stay in its shelters through the winter. Denver officials say they visited encampments to urge homeless migrants to come back inside. But they didn’t venture outside the city limits to Aurora.
As Colorado’s third-largest city, Aurora, on Denver’s eastern edge, is a place where officials have turned down requests to help migrants. In February, the Aurora City Council passed a resolution telling other cities and nonprofits not to bring migrants into the community because it “does not currently have the financial capacity to fund new services related to this crisis.” Yet still they come, because of its lower cost of living and Spanish-speaking community.
In fact, former President Donald Trump last week called attention to the city, suggesting a Venezuelan gang had taken over an apartment complex. Authorities say that hasn’t happened.
The doctors treated Herrera’s yeast infection and urged her to sleep at the hospital. It wouldn’t cost anything, they assured her, just as her birth would be covered by emergency Medicaid, a program that extends the health care benefits for poor American families to unauthorized immigrants for labor and delivery.
Herrera refused.
“How,” she asked, “could I sleep in a warm place when my son is cold on the street?”

“Temos que impedir a disseminação de conteúdo misantrópico e anticonstitucional na internet”, disse o deputado do Partido Verde, em entrevista ao grupo de mídia Funke, publicada no último sábado (07/09).
Hofreiter defendeu que as plataformas de mídia social que se recusarem a cumprir a lei sejam responsabilizadas “e bloqueadas, se necessário”.
“Estado deve tomar medidas duras”
A afirmação do político ambientalista foi feita semanas após o atentado a faca executado por um cidadão sírio que seria ligado ao grupo terrorista “Estado Islâmico” e que deixou três mortos no mês passado em Solingen, oeste da Alemanha, e poucos dias após o tiroteio ocorrido semana passada em frente ao Consulado Geral de Israel em Munique, cujo suspeito era um jovem radical islâmico austríaco de 18 anos que foi morto pela polícia.
Hofreiter afirmou que um dos maiores problemas ligados ao extremismo é radicalização através da internet. “Precisamos atacar a raiz do problema e impedir a radicalização tanto no espaço digital como na sociedade”, acrescentou o político.
As falas de Hofreiter provocaram críticas por parte de perfis da ultradireita alemã na rede X. Algumas contas acusaram o político de tentar “censurar” a rede e “impor uma ditadura”. O tom das reclamações foi similar ao usado por bolsonaristas no Brasil contra o ministro do STF Alexandre de Moraes, que determinou o bloqueio do X de Musk, bilionário que é alinhado politicamente com diversos membros da cena de extrema direita mundial.
No momento o X vem sendo alvo de uma investigação por parte da União Europeia (UE) por suspeita de violação de suas obrigações relativas ao combate à disseminação de conteúdos ilegais e desinformação. O procedimento, aberto em dezembro em 2023, foi a primeira ação aberta contra uma grande plataforma online desde que o bloco implementou a chamada Lei de Serviços Digitais (DSA, na sigla em inglês), em novembro do ano passado.
A DSA reforça a responsabilidade das empresas de internet pela moderação dos conteúdos compartilhados em suas plataformas, exigindo que elas se esforcem mais para combater conteúdo ilegal e seus riscos para a segurança pública.
Agentes no Telegram
Na entrevista publicada sábado, o deputado Hofreiter, que também é presidente do Comitê de Assuntos Europeus do Parlamento alemão também defendeu o uso de “agentes virtuais” para participar de grupos no serviço de mensagens Telegram, a fim de identificar possíveis criminosos.
Em 2022, a ministra do Interior da Alemanha, Nancy Faeser, chegou a cogitar publicamente a possibilidade de bloquear o Telegram no país após a plataforma, que oficialmente tem sede em Dubai, nos Emirados Árabes Unidos, ter ignorado várias tentativas de contato por parte das autoridades do país europeu. À época, o Telegram foi acusado rotineiramente por autoridades alemãs de não se adaptar às exigências da Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetz, ou NetzDG (Lei de Fiscalização da Rede, em tradução livre), que regula o combate à propagação de conteúdo extremista nas redes sociais e aplicativos de mensagens.
Criada em 2017, a lei estabelece a obrigação da remoção de conteúdos “claramente ilegais” em até 24 horas, a previsão de multas de até 50 milhões de euros em caso de descumprimento e a instituição de canais de denúncia. O texto mira especialmente redes sociais com mais de 2 milhões de usuários na Alemanha. Em 2021, uma emenda foi adicionada à lei, obrigando as redes a reportarem conteúdo ilegais específicos para a polícia federal alemã, como crimes contra o Estado democrático de direito e à ordem pública e pornografia infantil.

ich überlege eine Weiterbildung als Selbstzahler zu absolvieren, da die Thematik mir gefällt und mein aktueller Job mich nicht komplett überzeugt.
Diese Weiterbildung beim TÜV kostet 3.000 Euro. Dieselbe Weiterbildung bei https://www.wbstraining.de/
kostet 4.000 Euro. Wieso kann es sein, dass der Preisunterschied so krass ist?
Soweit ich weiß, sind alle TÜV-Weiterbildungen staatlich anerkannt. Stimmt das? Auf anderen Akademien liest man z.B., dass 'Weiterbildungen der IHK werden in Deutschland sehr hoch geschätzt (also, nicht anerkannt). Ich nehme an, dass jeder, der eine Weiterbildung absolviert, möchtet, am Ende eine Anerkannte Weiterbildung haben, oder? Oder ist es kein Problem eine nicht anerkannte Weiterbildung zu haben?

I've just created a GUI for a journal viewer

Hi everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ve started working on a new project called Journal Helper. Its a journal viewer built from scratch using Qt6 and C++. The goal is to provide a fast, visually integrated journal viewer for Linux, particularly for KDE/Plasma users.
While there are existing tools like journal-viewer (https://github.com/mingue/journal-viewer
), which uses WebKit, I found that its GUI doesn’t integrate well with the Qt/Plasma ecosystem. I also wanted to improve performance and create a more seamless visual experience. Therefore, I decided to create a new viewer from scratch that should be quicker and more efficient.
The project is still in its early stages, but I’d love to get more people involved, especially those who are interested in Qt development. As a beginner myself, I’m eager to learn from others and collaborate on making this tool as good as it can be.

The game is Sea of Thieves. Me and a friend did a Skeleton Camp, and after getting the treasure from the room in the screenshot above (worth 20k), we were attacked by these guys who rammed us.
They sank our ship before we could get back on, so i spawned the ship back in, raced to pick up my friend. Then i sailed past the outpost, my friend jumped off to sell it while i sailed away as a distraction. Then once all our stuff was sold we hit anchor and attacked them. For a galleon manned by 2 guys, i think we did really well. We still lost but they took on a ton of water and after they sank our ship we went for the old bucket strategy and started filling it with water. It was a lot of fun. Whoever that crew was i owe them thanks for giving us an adventure.

Photon now uses svelte-markdown for markdown rendering, which lets me use custom components for markdown.
Instead of only style changes, I can run actual code, meaning images can be made expandable and codeblocks can be copyable.

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court held, opens new tab that a 1957 law barring people from possessing spring-release pocketknives commonly known as “switchblades” violated the right to keep and bear arms enshrined in the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment.
The court reached that conclusion while dismissing a charge filed against David Canjura for unlawfully possessing a switchblade, which Boston police found when responding to a report of an altercation between Canjura and his girlfriend.

AlternativeTo is a site I use quite a bit. Personally I use it when I get fed up with an Android app having too many ads / creepy network behavior or want to find a self-hostable version of a freemium service.
It has filters for free, open source, platform type, etc. From my understanding it’s all crowd sourced, so if you disagree with a rating put in a vote! Sharing this in hopes that others find it as useful as I do.
If you know of similar or better resources I would love to hear about them.

After previous rumors and speculation, Sigourney Weaver has officially confirmed that she will be appearing in The Mandalorian & Grogu, marking her long-awaited debut in the Star Wars franchise. Details about The Mandalorian & Grogu are still quite sparse, even if new movie footage shown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Event provided audiences with a few new crumbs to go off of. This includes its cast list, which, aside from star Pedro Pascal and Steve Blum (Zeb Orrelios), is practically nonexistent. Now, however, a sci-fi legend has become the next name to join this duo.
Weaver has revealed to Deadline that she’s currently working on The Mandalorian & Grogu. Weaver even “got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day,” which is no doubt a highlight for any actor who’s new to The Mandalorian franchise. The actor doesn’t provide any specific details about her role, but at this stage, she doesn’t need to. Even just knowing someone of her caliber is a part of this upcoming Star Wars movie is an absolute thrill.

Spain has rejected a bid by Hungary’s Ganz-Mavag Europe Zrt. to buy train maker Talgo SA, saying the proposed deal could have compromised its strategic interests and threatened national security.
The offer presented “insurmountable risks” to public order, the Madrid-based government said in a statement Tuesday. The information portion of a dossier connected to the statement was qualified as classified.

The ruling ends the Hungarian conglomerate’s controversial bid to take control of the Madrid-based train maker amid opposition from the government led by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, which drew attention to its links to Hungary’s nationalist government. Ganz-Mavag is owned by a private equity fund managed by state oil company Mol Nyrt., whose management is allied with Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The failed deal underscores political tensions within the European Union, which has accused Orban of promoting a culture of cronyism and corruption. For his part the Hungarian premier, whose country currently holds the rotating council presidency of the 27-state bloc, has openly opposed EU aid to Ukraine.
