The ability to hide media you don't want to see on #mastodon is one of my favourite features - is there a way to do this for user avatars too? I don't want to resort to blocking someone just for having a distracting animated avatar with a flashing background, but I'd prefer not to see it.

I recently bought a 3D printer, which for most people is probably a solution looking for a problem to solve. Much like generative AI, I don't think 3DP is particularly useful to most people.
But as with genAI, there's a real authorial sense of proprietorship to the outputs for many people. Someone that downloads a model dragon, perhaps scales it a little, and hits print will act as if they've performed some kind of creative act. Just the same as the 'artists' who feel that they've really made art by tweaking their AI prompt for a couple of minutes.
Local markets and maker faires are slowly being overrun with stalls selling articulated dragons designed by an artist but then printed ad infinitum by printer owners who feel that by choosing which colour to print in, they've had transformative input into the design process.

Surprised that Dillo browser, as distributed by Arch linux, doesn't seem to include full unicode support. The missing characters here should be 'ドンキーコング'. Does anyone have a way to fix this?
I'm pretty sure Dillo and the underlying FLTK fully support utf-8, so maybe some kind of font-configuration can save me here?

First book of the year read. Revisited an old favourite, David Weber's 'On Basilisk Station', the start of a long series of sequels and spinoffs collectively known as the 'Honorverse'. This is my third reading and I still loved every page of thickly cheesy military sci-fi. And yes, you should definitely judge this book by its cover

#nesdev experiment tonight, creating a parallax scrolling effect without any mapper to generate scanline interrupts. Some simple timed loops eat up the CPU time between each scroll area. A bit rough but with some careful tile design I think it'd look pretty good. #famicom #gamedev

I'm trying to learn more about these (anti ESD?) thin tips on signal pads, full width on power pads. Any hints?
If you zoom in closely to my blurry picture, pins 1, 16 and 30 are wide almost all the way to the edge of the board, whereas the others are shorter, but then have a tinnny thin strip that extends to the edge

Despite having a bathtub, I almost always shower instead. Everyone else went out for a while, so I thought I'd treat myself to a hot bath. Went great for five minutes, at which point I sloshed too loudly and the dog ran into the bathroom and leapt bravely into the tub to save me from drowning.

I log into twitter once in a while, it's always worse than I expect. I still get random follows - from Turkey I regularly receive crypto enthusiasts (there is some kind of 'voxel coin') and from Brazil, I am frequently mentioned by gaming journalists mistaking me for a popular local gaming website. I'd consider giving up the account, but judging from the frequent password reset emails I receive, crypto assholes are bent on stealing it to shill fake money, and I don't want to make that easier

Anyone here into #3dprinting ? Is it possible to do resin printing without generating craptonnes of ecowaste? Are 'eco resins' just a scam? Honestly I just want to design and print tiny figurines for games, for fun, without feeling guilty that I'm producing toxic waste.
