To do a completely different #bloomscrolling from my visit to #Saguaro #NationalPark near #Tucson #Arizona, I present the blooms of the Saguaro #Cactus itself! These are pretty hard to photograph as they are usually found on the tips of the branches, which are usually pretty high off the ground. This is just fine for an important pollinator, the Lesser Long-nosed #Bat. This #endangered species not only pollinates the cactus at night, but it disperses its seeds by air when it later feeds on the cactus fruit. Here’s some more information:

It’s #azalea season in #BatonRouge #Louisiana and this time I thought I’d share the white flowering variety. These particular shrubs were formed into a hedge in front of a historical bungalow in the #SpanishTown neighborhood. I figured they would be of interest to #bloomscrolling and #gardening. The key to getting these type of blooms is not to prune in the fall after the buds are set. If you do that you will only see flowers on the inside of the shrub.

In the spirit of #SilentSunday and #bloomscrolling I offer this exuberant #Azalea bush I saw today on my walk. It is located at the edge of a the lawn of a historical house in the Beauregard Town Neighborhood in #BatonRouge #Louisiana. It seems a little early for these to be in full #flower, but the weather is warm this spring.

For #bloomscrolling I wanted to offer these False Jessamine #flowers that I encountered on a walk yesterday. This vine was growing on a fence, and was being eagerly visited by lots of flying insects. See the #honeybee behind in picture two. This was in the #SpanishTown Neighborhood in Downtown #BatonRouge #Louisiana.

@npub1zdp…vqv8 @npub16kz…3dvt My strangest would be the unique coniferous plant from the Namib Desert: Welwitschia mirabilis. This is a “living fossil” that has an underground trunk and only two strap-like leaves. I posted a picture of a female plant from Wikipedia. Here’s a link to more info:

For #FungiFriday I have some nifty bracket #fungi that I photographed this week at the Port Hudson State Historic Site near #Zachary #Louisiana. These bi-colored fungi appear to be Mustard Yellow Polypores (Fuscoporia gilva) according to iNaturalist. Seems like a great name to me, as the color is spot on. The velvety brown bases are a great aspect too…

Our new Administrator is working to get our server migration completed and the bugs ironed out, and he will be able to give it his full attention this weekend. The facts are that all these Admins do this as a side gig out of the love of Mastodon, and most have real jobs and lives that prevent them from giving it their all. He’s an actual IT professional so he should be able to sort it out given time to do so.

For #[0] I wanted to share this enormous old #[1] #[2] that has its own space by the Baton Rouge Clinic on Perkins Road in #[3] #[4]. When the Clinic moved to this location, they preserved the tree and set aside an appropriately sized fenced area to protect its root system. The tree is thriving and so is the Clinic. Proof that we can live in harmony with nature if we do so thoughtfully. This oak supports an impressive colony of Resurrection Fern as well. I took these photos last week, and you can see the new spring growth on the branches.
