I think in her case, she does have a conscience, but she is so isolated from normality most of the time that it doesn’t get activated.

Discussing the British Press, and I'm reminded of the time when I had a moderate amount of celebrity in the UK LGBT community, and the press tried to do a hit piece on me.
Now here's the thing. There's a cheat code, and I'm going to explain what it is:
They will contact you for comment.
If you say nothing, they will publish the piece and say you were offered the chance to comment.
If you tell them to fuck off, they will publish the price and say your response was foul and unprintable.
I did neither of these things. I told them that this piece wasn't journalism. It was ridiculous tittle tattle and represented everything that was wrong with a failing and dying industry more obsessed with clickbait than proper reporting. I asked them if they didn't have proper news to report, and said that they should be ashamed of themselves.
They're basically screwed at that point. "We contacted Ms Brown for comment and she said that this was ridiculous tittle tattle and that the reporter should be ashamed of herself."
They're not gonna say that.
I'm struck by something one of my history teachers once said about medieval castles. They weren't meant to be impregnable. They were meant to be annoying enough that an invading army would decide to investigate other priorities instead.
The piece never ran.
If you're a trans person in the crosshairs of the British press, make yourself an annoying target. They're on a deadline, and if you make them conclude that life is too short, they will leave you the fuck alone.

1 - as of now, they're quite expensive.
2 - because they're a single unit, the fan that drives the air over the heat exchanger is part of the unit. Therefore, it makes a noise.
It's noisier than a gas boiler, but not massively so. If you have it in an airing cupboard then you can ignore it. If it's out in the open, it may be annoying.

@npub1yac…la7e @npub163w…lq6z @npub1lll…5409 No, it doesn't. The one I linked (which is the one I own) is a single unit. It replaces your hot water cylinder. That is literally all there is.
It has a pipe coming in for ambient air and a pipe going out for cold air from the heat exchanger. They just need to vent to the outside. Can do that via an existing chimney or flue.
There is no external fitting of any kind. It's a single unit.

@npub1yac…la7e @npub1mcz…dr5f The nice thing about container ships is that once you've finished loading them, you have a massive flat area onto which you could unroll solar panels.
You can also have container batteries.
How much battery storage you'd need on board and whether covering the top of the cargo with rolled out solar PV would provide enough to keep it going is not something I've done the maths on, but add wind propulsion and solar power with much of the existing fuel and ballast replaced with batteries together, and it's possibly feasible.

@npub1zkm…hcgp A problem I’m noticing with my instance is, especially with the Twitter migration picking up, the deferred queue is just growing and growing as people experiment then abandon accounts or even entire servers.
I assume it will sort itself out eventually, but is there any way to reduce the timeout? I’ve got stuff that’s days old sitting in there that is probably never going to get actioned because the servers have just gone away.

Being serious here, it would likely be much better if we stopped gendering gonadal steroids quite so much. The physical characteristics we regard as “male” and “female” are just the result of variances in endocrine system mixes which aren’t as polar as most people assume, and actually overlap, and short of direct reproduction, you can program nearly any human body to develop pretty much any of these different phenotype expressions: just change the mix. Trans people do it all the time. The number of people who assume that, eg, trans women’s tits are all implants (they aren’t) and can’t lactate (they can) is sad. Surely it’s better if we all understand our own biology a bit better?

It gets worse for them. Estradiol, the main human oestrogen, is a metabolite of testosterone. The body makes it by converting testosterone into it. They are very, very similar molecules. The main difference is that testosterone has one carbonyl group and one hydroxyl group, and estradiol replaces that carbonyl with a second hydroxyl.
But anyway: implications for the poor super-straight, “women are a mysterious lovely feminine species” incel types are as follows: all that super feminine oestrogen came from nasty dirty masculine testosterone, and some of their own very male masculine “I love beer and farting” testosterone is routinely converted into sissy emasculating oestrogen (like, if it weren’t, they literally would not have a skeleton).
Oh, and if the idea of dating women with highish testosterone levels freaks them out, then the way to avoid that is to seek out trans women. Most of us post transition have almost none, and our oestrogen is usually produced from plant sources, going nowhere near any testicular-cooties action.
But we won’t sleep with them either. So sad.

Apparently weird incel types think oestrogen is responsible for women’s sex drive.
I suspect it would blow their minds if they ever found out that the hormone most involved in making women horny is actually testosterone.
They act like we’re a different species or something. We all have the same set of receptors, more or less, guys. That’s why medical transition is even possible.
