maybe when they switched to the NCC classifications, the Federation was big enough that Earth got assigned the 17xx series to name, and other planets got other series.
(*) I suspect this theory wouldn't stand up to any trekkie with deep Federation history knowledge!

we're mid speccing solar, came to the conclusion that the UPSes catch short power cuts and long ones aren't regular enough to justify the price of gridless support.
I give it six months before this theory is proved wrong ;-)

if something is happening intermittently, then a good rule of thumb is that you've *probably* fixed it if it doesn't happen for twice as long as the longest gap between events before.
So if something breaks every few days, and at longest every 7 days, then you have *some* confidence you've improved things if it doesn't break for 7x2 == 14 days.
(I'm.. not sure that 'explanation' makes things clearer or even more confused!)
