Welp, it happened!
4.5 years in, I finally got harassed for wearing a mask. I didn’t manage more than laughing.
Classic abuser tactics: harassed me outside the store, ignored me inside.
Impressively, an employee actually noticed the very brief exchange and checked on me.
It wasn’t worth more of a response, but like… my dude, I wore this shit for smokey air yesterday, and hotel detergent smells last week. I’d say you could pry it off my cold, dead body, but I’m going to outlive your ass.

I would guess non-truck-owners generally underestimate actual use, and truck owners underestimate what can be done with a smaller vehicle.
(4x8 plywood strapped atop an '05 Corolla is a fun ride, btw. 😂 😜 😬)
Either way, though, the least pixie-dust solution* I can come up with is a transport-on-demand model where you press a button and the right sized vehicle shows up.

If the point is to stop wasting resources doing things like driving pickup trucks everywhere because we have them for the time we need drywall, none of those are actually a move in the right direction.
Vehicle automation could have some real potential, though. Specifically automation that can function, you know, at night, on the half-mile winding driveway to a farm, with patches of black ice, and thus A) is not limited to urban areas, and B) has fully replaced human drivers.

It's all pretty much a matter of inventing free-energy, right?
Not too hard to imagine scaled-up drone delivery. You just need the motor powered by pixie dust to get to a reasonable price-point for daily tasks.
You could do purely subterranean transport. You just need to hook that pixie-motor up to a pixietonium drill bit, and only serve urban areas.
Elevated maglev maybe? Landscape only interrupted by posts here and there? I have 99 problems, and they all start with "LK-"...
