I saw that, and I think Dune did the same with some characters' facial features. I guess I'm asking like, suppose I did edits on those levels to photos of myself, should I be marking my content as AI generated?
Because the way some social media platforms like Cara, Mastodon Social, and soon Pixelfed have written their rules, it seems like I should be? And more social media platforms seem to be heading in that vague direction.

To clarify on the masking subject, suppose I masked bruises on my skin, identifiable imagery in the background (for example, someone walking by in the distance, a family portrait on the wall of a rental I'm shooting at), or stray camera equipment I accidentally captured in photos like the ones I typically post where I am the primary subject of the shot.

This feels less like a difference between East and West and more a difference between the Global South and Global North.
Where I'm from in Mexico would be considered the West, but it has similar IP violations that you're describing in their telecommunications space, leading to more developments in ICT.
And then in contrast, Japan and Korea are in the East and they have some of the strictest IP laws on the planet.
Strict IP laws seem inversely proportional to GDP growth as the price of paying for licenses and higher requirements for unique designs both increase the costs of production.
So, states like Malaysia and Mexico likely won't adopt mainstream IP protection concepts until they reach much higher levels of economic development.
