Dammit, I just grabbed for a falling rotary cutter and sliced up my ring finger. Not the most important finger for sewing, but it’s not like I don’t use it at all 🤬 (no real worries, it had the guard on so it didn’t cut too deep, just grumpy)

Another person has died in the #SanDiego jails. Family has not been notified or I would identify him by his given name.
He was there for a misdemeanor. Misdemeanors should not carry death sentences.
6th person this year.
If anyone local wants to help lobby for safer conditions in our jails, let me know; I can put you in touch with a couple of different organizations involved in that work.

If any #Quilting people remember Andrea from the bird site, her shop, The Quilting Shed in Fredericton, New Brunswick, was totaled by smoke damage from a fire in the store next to it
This happened to a LQS here in San Diego a few years ago and it is devastating, though Andrea seems determined to rebuild

Had hoped to use the inspiration fabric as part of the design, but it’s just washing the bright happiness of the quilt out so much
If I stop here, this is a smaller quilt than I usually make - 48x67.5. Don’t know whether to add a wonky border to make it bigger? Or words?

Been enjoying the podcast The Sum of Us, especially this ep on former felons’ fight for the vote in Florida
Given how hard so many Americans have fought to have the right to vote — and still are fighting! — the prevalence of deceptive mailers in #California’s open primaries (Dems urging people to vote for Republicans so they won’t face a stronger opponent) is really upsetting me

Nibling went to visit the George Floyd exhibit at the ASU Art Museum since I’m too far to go. He was surprised by how big the space was and how much material was exhibited; said that it was well presented and quite moving

CLERB, the citizen’s board that oversees the #SanDiego sheriff’s department, did an important thing today to hold the sheriff accountable for jail deaths — they announced a public hearing about requiring body scanners for all jail staff
Sheriff Martinez has twice rejected CLERB’s recommendation to install such scanners
But CLERB is refusing to take no for an answer when it comes to scanning deputies for drugs before they enter the jail and it’s good to see them keep the pressure on
