Grew up in Silicon Valley, did the big corporate technology thing, then moved to wine country, produced Wine Biz Radio (RIP), then making films and video as an entrepreneur, then into nonprofit arts center managing the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival, and now teaching media and stagecraft to teenagers in a public high school. Kinda freaky, considering I also dabble in ham radio, electronics and eurorack synths.

I mean, I really think I've had enough of #Google and their relentless destruction of apps and tech that I actively use. Today I got a reminder that Google Podcasts is EOL next year.
So, once again, I'm in the market for a podcast app that isn't Spotify or Apple or heart or whatever.
There was a time when this was easier, right? I watched @npub1hyk…3p33 DEFCON talk posted a couple weeks ago and I really think he's summed it up for me. Constant #enshittification of everything useful in tech.

I get the idea that there is presently no way to properly moderate the #Fediverse in a way that meets the needs of marginalized communities (ie keeping bigots of all stripes from freely spreading their garbage in view of their enemies), but that doesn't mean we shouldn't grapple with the inconvenient truth of that present reality, as you phrased it.

@npub1ks4…x88p @npub13y8…786k as I've discovered, the seedy underbelly of Mastodon allows racists, et al. to quietly perpetrate their shitty behavior onto BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities here without allies or "regular folk" being any the wiser. If you were to follow the lived experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ accounts on Mastodon, you would know this.
TLDR just because you aren't seeing it doesn't mean it's not happening.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 that's an excellent reminder for me, because I struggle with wanting to show my students everything, but end up having to teach the core features of the technology they use at least 80% of the time, over and over again.

@npub19st…u9g9 @npub18x5…z5lv you're not wrong, by the way. I keep thinking about it off-handedly.
There will always be some segment of students who look at AI as "do it for me so I have more time to screw off" and those ppl will almost always get caught. I'm more interested in those who use AI tools as a means to assist in their learning by helping to expand the student's inquiry (by posing questions or observations that make the student think more deeply.)
