@nprofile…fv4z If you honestly don't think a concrete list of essential, core functionality that doesn't work is actionable, I don't know what to tell you. It's an admission that you don't think the architecture and development model are salvageable either.

@nprofile…fv4z Honestly I'm surprised by even the modest attention this post has been getting. This is nothing like a comprehensive list of the problems with Mastodon, nor should anything I mention be news to anyone with any familiarity with Mastodon. The bot accounts just had a few thousand followers and I felt I owed them an explanation for (at least somewhat) abandoning them.

@nprofile…sxnn "Bluesky is exploding in popularity" is a fact, and that the growth is being led by the already-mature US market makes it more impressive, not less. That said, roughly half of Bluesky users are outside the US, with particular popularity in Brazil and Japan. "But it's not popular in *my* neighborhood, and that's what matters!" is the parochial view.

The instance administered by @nprofile…yr5u that hosts all of my Mastodon solar bots (https://v.cx/2024/02/solar-bot) has stated their intention to ban all of my bots. Although they concede that neither the accounts nor the posts break any of their rules, they don't like that the posts appear in their instance's timeline. If there were a way to remove posts *only* from the instance feed I'd agree to that. There is not. Instead, posts would also need to be unsearchable, suppressing their discovery.
