I don't care that Doctor Who is starting over with a season 1 again. Comic books do this all the time--start with an issue 1 as a jumping on point for new readers with a new storyline and move on from there. If it makes it easier for new viewers and potential new fans, why not? Gatekeeping the fan experience is unbecoming. Providing access to new fans is sexy.

Ok. SO I'm listening to the ALC (Advance Listener Copy) of the Argylle novel and it's surprisingly good. I'm about 3/4 of the way through. I am pleased, but definitely caught off guard. Usually novels written by characters are a bit slapdash.

The amount of icing on cake and cupcakes is growing exponentially. When I was a kid, it was a 1:10 ratio of icing to cake. Now we are at 7:10. At this rate, in a few years, we will have thirteen icing to 10 cake. I just want some pleasant icing flavor to go with my tasty cake. Not an overwhelmingly sweet and kind of slimy bomb in my mouth with a mouse’s crumb of cake.

Someone dear to me changed their pronouns for a while then changed them back. No harm done. Experiment terminated successfully. They know what they don’t want. It was easy. It was FREE. It left no lasting changes. This should be a normal part of finding yourself. That doesn’t mean everyone has to do it. It means it’s no longer outside the range of possibilities for actions when you’re trying to figure out where you are and where you fit in. Respect when someone changes their pronouns. And respect if they change them back without harassment and “see I told you sos.” It’s simple, it’s empathetic, and it doesn’t cost you a damned dime.

Book banning attempts:
My position: Children should be allowed to read developmentally appropriate materials. And their parents--not other people's parents--should be making the decision as to what is morally and developmentally appropriate for their child. I, personally, would rather see my child deal with the complicated issues and big feelings surrounding sex, drugs, violence and other real-world issues in the context of a book. They can grapple with their feelings and thoughts on the matter in a safe environment, instead of in real-time, real-life situations.
Some parents believe that shielding their children entirely from things like sex and drugs (but seldom violence) means their child will never engage with those things, but we know statistically this isn't true. Children are exposed to real-world issues before they're 18, and need the support literature provides. Children don't just suddenly turn 18 and know how to deal with adult things because they are magically adults now. /rant
