#CSS has come so far but it still feels so lacking when it comes to overflow and sticky positioning.
sure, you can implement something like the holy grail layout using CSS grid, but that's usually a bad idea, because you give up all the optimizations that the "root scroller" comes with by default (such as keyboard scrolling and pull-to-refresh). https://codepen.io/hi_mayank/pen/GRaZXPg
so instead you're stuck with `position: sticky`, which means you also need to add `z-index`, `background` and `scroll-margin`.

i think it's safe to say google's web•dev site is fucked beyond redemption.
there is occasionally some good stuff on there, but i just can't trust it anymore.

fwiw, that post about icon fonts is still one of my favorite things you've written.
you can totally phrase things differently, but at the same time, you shouldn't have to.
maybe it's a culture thing, but i honestly feel like people in tech are just bad at receiving criticism, and very easily take personal offense even where there's nothing remotely personal.

it's wild that your *very* reasonable take was considered so controversial that it offended people to the point they feel the need to publicly announce they're unfollowing you. if anything, this only helps show the ableism that's so deeply ingrained in the average fossbro

since i switched instances this week, i thought i'd do a (re) #introduction.
hi! my name is Mayank. i go by they/them pronouns.
i'm a design engineer (or "frontend developer" in less fancy terms) trying to build a less broken, more accessible web.
i write a lot of HTML/CSS/JS, so i post a lot about it too. web standards stuff yes, but also framework stuff. anything relevant for building websites.

one of my favorite uses of #CSS `:has()` is to change the grid layout based on what's inside the grid
