I think I’ve finally orange pulled my dad. He can’t get around the non-physical nature of #bitcoin.
A comment to him in our conversation:
…But I trust the rules based protocol bitcoin is built on. Therefore I believe that rules based protocol is valuable.
When I play monopoly it has rules. I cannot “feel” the rules but they exist and are of value to playing the game correctly and to avoiding cheating. In my eyes those rules have VALUE even though they are not tangible.
I value the rules which bitcoin is built on, therefore I value bitcoin.

I listen to people comment about how a certain demographic wont “get” bitcoin and prefer gold. This may be true for some.
My mom who is 63 started listening to podcasts I would send her. After a few months she jumped in.
She attended the BTC conference with me last year and we will be going again this year.
Your parents are never too old to learn but it will require more patience and persistence….still working on my dad.

Being in the class of 2020 I’m back over my cost basis.
I know what it feels like to HODL through a 70% drawdown but I haven’t experienced what it feels like to HODL through 300%+ appreciation (assuming we get to 100k at some point).

I’ve been discussing bitcoin at work for a few years (class of 2020). Many dismissed or didn’t care but now some co-workers are starting to stop by to talk bitcoin since price is running a little bit 👀.
The first thing I do is hand them the kids book “bitcoin money”. This helps set a basis for discussion.
Number go up gets them in, hopefully many will do the work and realize what this revolution is about ⚡️.

Interesting take. I haven’t read anyone suggesting using LN channels as a basis for UTXO. Is this to try and use the channel sizes as a proxy for expected future value of sats? (I.e. someone else is already thinking about appropriate channel sizes) 🙏🏼

Does anyone have good references on a UTXO strategy?
I read many posts about consolidation but if #bitcoin is to achieve what it set out to do (or even 10-20%) would you want smaller UTXOs as they would be worth more (in USD) terms. Or another way to say it is each sat will go further in purchasing power.

Here is where I start to struggle. The “everyday” person wants to be able to spend what they have on everyday items.

Thanks for the response.
My son is 6 and I just downloaded WOS on his cheap Amazon tablet.
I have the QR codes for him, me, and my wife on the fridge to transfer funds between us.
He is pretty good at transferring and seems to love seeing his sat balance go up more than paying him physical.
I wonder if there is anything else I should be thinking about. Maybe too young for self custody 😂.

I’m in the camp that Quality of posts will win compared to quantity of posts.
But should posts should be evaluated on quantity of zaps (the most people who found value worth paying for) vs. total zap value? Or else one can just zap himself a large sum.

Friction yes, but optionally for zap size and type seems to make sense.
The friction I see is continuing to select your default wallet. Once a default is selected it should pull from the location set unless you want to change the default.

I’ve been pretty successful discussing the importance if bitcoin with friends and family but this week I had two more people download WOS (Wallet of Satoshi). We sent sats back and forth and they were shocked for a few minutes but then stated, “okay, but how can I use to purchase…well anything…”
I discussed bitrefill, pay with moon, and a few others. They want to be able to spend it without going above and beyond with respect to their normal daily/weekly tasks.
How can you (or do you) show someone how to spend their bitcoin at a physical store?
