Body cams should have worked, but giving them the ability to turn them off was the first mistake. The second was not making every minute of police footage freely available to the public at all times.
This was meant to provide accountability. Unfortunately, those meant to enforce this failed miserably in holding officers accountable for their actions.

Here is an exhaustive list of races of people who have caused me direct harm in my lifetime.
1. White people, mostly men.
That's it. A black person has never harmed me. A hispanic person has never harmed me. An asian person has never harmed me. A pacific islander has never harmed me. The list goes on and on.
99% of the people in my life who have harmed me looked similar to me. The other 1% were the rare abusive women my father was attracted to.
Guess which people helped me the most in life? Women, queer people, and BIPOC. Somehow, despite spending most of my life in mostly cishet white "Christian' environments, the kindest people did not look like me. I'm so thankful the internet and social media proliferated. I don't dare think of the person I could have become were it not for the diverse collective of people I'm connected to.

In a capitalist society, all behavior is financially incentivized. Since ethically dubious behavior creates profit more quickly than more ethical behavior, people will continue to lean that way. In a world where a bigger company can put you out of business quickly, new business owners can't risk playing the long game, even the small businesses which often try to be ethical.
As an example, my behaviors are more maliciously capitalist in recent years despite my disdain for the system. It needs to change, but I need to survive within the system if I am to have any hope to help change it. So, I use tax loopholes and any other Lawful Evil behavior which keeps a roof over my children's heads and helps me meet my medical needs (albeit poorly).
The most damning part of capitalism is how most people have to compromise their morals to survive in it. It would be one thing if we could bow out and live with like minded individuals, but capitalism is a plague which follows us everywhere. Capitalism will continue to be the de facto economic structure of the world so long as the biggest world powers benefit from it.
I hate it here. 😔

Why not just plant clover? It rarely gets more than six inches tall, and it'll stay shorter in high traffic areas.
It'll also do far more than that mulch in terms of preventing erosion.

It appears to be time for me to start reconnecting with people. With my memory issues, remembering people's handles is nearly impossible, even people I've known for many years.
But first, it's becoming clear I owe some apologies for disappearing the way I did. I was in a very bad place emotionally and psychologically. There was an exceptional amount of confusion on my end. I was at a complete loss, and much like every other period in my life, I was unable to get the professional help I needed.
I truly believed my absence would go unnoticed. That's on me. In meatspace, I struggle to interpret how others feel about me. In cyberspace, I struggle with this even further. I am almost never correct about how I am valued by someone else. Because of this, I genuinely believed my absence would have no effect on anyone else.
It was made clear I was completely incorrect. For that enormous mistake, I genuinely apologize.
With that matter behind me, if you know anyone who is trying to reconnect with me, by all means, send them my way, or if you feel so inclined, you may boost this. Thank you.

I want both. My sanctuary (if I ever have the energy and funds to build it) will very much be like this. It'll be a community, but everyone will have their private living spaces.
With luck, I can begin the legal research this fall/winter to get the ball rolling.
May just be a pipe dream, but I'm not letting this one go.
