—Applied Laziness. It's a mix of art, philosophy, science, and even religion, and you must put a lot of effort to do it right, but once you master it, you're free. Believe me. I was a Master Sluggard at 25. It took me years of study and work but the reward was worth the all the pain and suffering. That or maybe martial arts. But my training in the aforementioned discipline would make difficult for me to learn martial arts, so I'll stick to Applied Laziness.

The Engineer has the exact magic number of Home (yeah, right), and the travel will not be a straight line. He knows where he must turn left, where and when to go up, down, where to do a U turn, etc. He knows the things he need to pick-up on the way Home, and where to hire the right people (?) to do the job. Now he only needs to do it.

5H4RK-N48, an automated probe explored Exedis-4's seas. The most amazing thing it discovered is that its sea fauna is remarkably similar ours. 5H4RK says these "fishes" are edible, so food won't be a problem. Those who'll live there are the worst criminals on earth, so, if they starve, it's not our problem. But we may need to send regular people there someday, so it's good to know they'll have living space and food…

We only wanted to test the engines. 10% to see if they worked. Well, they work, and way better than we thought. The idea was to build a floating city. The world's full. There's not enough available space for people to live and we can't use the natural reserves and deserts to build cities, so, the sky is the only option. Something nice a stranger did for you.
—I was 15. I was talking with a friend, complaining about being unable to find a job, and a nice old lady simply offered me a job as her errand boy. That was good. She paid well and I got to know the city very well, because I had to go from end to end several times a day, doing stuff for her. I worked 3 years for her. Outside his door you'd see a *LOOOONG* hallway full of doors. Yellow (for people's rooms), red (for transport-pad system) and orange ("dead" doors with a wall behind). You can get lost in the many hallways like this the Old Hag's house has the first time you go there alone. Sometimes the doors change place without people noticing.
Form his window you'd see a view of the wall of windows from the building next door from inside Our Hero's room. That building looks like a "Windows Catalog". Why so many damn windows? The Old Hag likes them. That's the only official explanation. If you keep asking they may give you the boot instead of an answer. And it's a high heeled platform boot, so, for your won good, don't ask.

It made me feel angry.
I' preferred to read the yellow pages than "One Hundred Years of Solitude", for example. Our teacher didn't used the official materials, which in theory was good because "official" here equals "bad". His method made any assignment pure pain. You had to deduce what he wanted to hear (not learn) this year and if you weren't a seer/mind reader/etc., no good grades for you. Next!
None of us was, so, imagine our academic numbers.
On a test, I answered everything using "The Dark Knight Returns" instead of "Don Quixote", just to make him angry as angry as I was. It worked…>=)

—Ah. The very first thing was a lollipop bag. I saved a month's of allowance. My dentist was happy. Now, the first important thing was Queen's Greatest Hits Deluxe Collection. Cost me 2 months of paychecks. It contained the 4 greatest hits albums and a book with the band's history. As if I needed that to know all about them. The 4th was mostly reworked demos but, hey, those were real Queen songs, not like the 79's "last Beatles album". Those were just remixes and a few overdubs.

A lot. I create characters with enough backstory before deciding if they will be in the story, and which role they'll play. Most of the time. Sometimes I'm writing a scene or more backstory and a character pop-ups in my mind, a character that *MUST* be included no matter what. The Still Unnamed Daughter is one of such characters. If only I could control them…=)

It'd be "El Maic" (The Mike/Miguel), The Unreliable Taco Vendor.
For instance, he knows all the gossip since his stand is outside of the National Palace, seat of the government, and everyone working there go to Maic's to eat. Besides having a really holy hand when he prepares his tacos, he has a very good hearing and memory, so he listen and remember everything his (idiot) clients babble.
He knows things no one should. For example, about the "not documented" son of the president. Or the colossal failure of the New Green Lagoon nuclear plant (which, being nuclear is why it failed). Those things are classified, top secret, and he knows about that. If you hang out with him, you'll hear lots of cool stories.
Why is he still in business (and alive) if he knows too much? Because he knows too much…>=)
And if you save his life or business, he'll feed you for free. Just don't try to skip the line.

—I walk. Do you remember that old song? The one with the guy walking on the street, not caring about anyone? Bittersweet Symphony? I do that. "Voy derecho y no me quito y si me pegas me desquito" (I go straight and I don't take off and if you hit me, I get even) is my mantra when I walk in that mind state. Now, imagine doing that looking like this! Good thing is most people ignore me. It's the only thing that can help me to calm myself again. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some streets to walk on. The most amazing thing is that it still works. It was buried in the Eternal Ice for 400 years, give or take, and we only had to let it charge its solar battery for a day. It even works better than ours! If only we knew who built this thing. The driver was already dead when the ice covered them. A bullet to the head. A strange bullet. A good night's sleep?
—Yes, please! I can seep like a bear but I'm always tired when I wake up. I have no idea why. The Damn Thing* says I'm 0K but then why can't I sleep well? Specialists here say it's something in my mind. That maybe there was some error in the transference when they put me in this body. It isn't so bad. It feels like your real body turned up to 11. It's built to be the body of a healthy 20 years old person, no matter what age were you when you were "uploaded" into the body. And once you get used to having body parts you never had (or had removed and now you have again, like one of the characters) and other minutiae like that, everything is awesome. Nothing to worry…>=)
And remember, with this body you can travel around the world in seconds using the door system, or by yourself if you train hard enough, and, if you fall from, say, the Empire State top floor, you'll fall in your feet without damage. To you. The floor will be a mess…=)
The best part is all of this is done to you without consulting you because you're dead! =D

He have some issues, like the previously mentioned situation when he eats more than decency allows, but that's a feature, not a bug. The medical regenerator put that "ailment" just for fun. It's a small price to pay for having an extremely healthy, customized, overhauled, feminized, superpowered, and artificial male body**.
* His original body is still roast meat but it's being healed/rebuilt/whatever. That could be considered an illness but, beyond an excruciating mental trauma, he has no health problems because of that.
** All in Our Hero's team, except Loren, have the same kind of "extremely healthy, customized, overhauled, feminized, superpowered, and artificial male body", the only difference being their heights and some minor cosmetic details like hair and skin color. 5 things you will never do as a writer
—I'm not a writer…well, not a professional writer. Does my journal count? Whatever! I know I wouldn't:
1. Left major plot threads without resolution unless there's an already planned sequel and my hypothetical readers know that.
2. Kill a character without a real reason, and I'm including "to show how powerful/evil is the villain" as a valid reason.
3. Justify unjustified cruelty. Never. Justified cruelty for story reasons, maybe, if it's against someone deserving.
4. Write illogical things trying to make them sound logical.
5. Do that.

Music.
Music is no only my drug. It's also my muse. I may get inspired by dreams an all the media I consume (mostly scifi and anime), but without music I can't create anything. It can be almost any kind of music. Once I'm in the zone, even if I'm singing along the music, I'm *INSIDE* the story or whatever creative thing I might be doing at the moment.
A long time ago, in a very, very different internet, I had a muse. I had to cut ties with her and that cost me several years of zero inspiration and absolutely no will to do creative things.

—Yes. More or less. Unlike some of my…mmmhhh…colleagues, I don't have family issues. My family was good. And before you mention my dear daddy, and *DON'T LAUGH* when I say that, let me tell you I don't consider that no-good bastard as family. My mother was and still is a little detached, but that was understandable. She had to work, and I did too. My sister's cool, if a little slutty, but nothing to worry about. Willy fell asleep while driving his car at 125 KMPH. His body was ejected from the car, and he saw clearly the blackness of the sky, full of stars. And a bright light in front of him. Top Cat's mexican dub is still considered as one of the all-time best. The actors did "what they wanted" with the episodes and while the stories where more o less faithful, the voices + dialogue was a blast. Specially with Benny and Choo-Choo (Benito and Cucho in spanish, done by the same actor, the late Jorge Arvizu). To this day it's still the most popular of Hanna-Barbera's series here in México…=)

I was 7, maybe early 8 years old. Like any other mexican kid, I was a *BIG* fan of Hanna-Barbera's "Top Cat". I wrote what now I know was a fanfic. What was it about? I don't remember. I used to draw a lot up to my middle 20s, when I lost the ability (and now I know why that happened). I used to make one page mini comics and my inspiration were cartoons and comics, so I did pure fan-fiction. I didn't start with original ideas until I was a teenager. Sadly I have nothing of that material, and that's something to celebrate! =)

One night, the UFO appeared over that house's backyard. Just like that. The bright fume was going up, right from the ground. Night and day. There was a slow hum.
