Sports Pad had two modes - in controller mode, it sends directional inputs to roughly match how you spin the ball. Works better than you’d think and works with all games. In sports mode it acts like a regular trackball, sending change in position each time you poll it. Only a few games supported this mode. Once I clean up this code, you’ll be able to use it as a generic USB trackball. (Other devices already exist to do this but Reflex Adapt wasn’t one of them and I wanted to learn some Arduino.)

Lots of these - one of the copies of Turbo has a floppy in it! They’re similar to record sleeves, I assume this was a way to make cheap packaging for cheap games. #amiga #retrogaming #retrocomputing

Posting my pickup here today in case anybody’s interested in any of it. It’s mostly Amiga games that are missing the disks so it’s possibly interesting for any completionist collectors on here. Turns out it was almost all just the boxes, manuals, and other bits, I’m assuming the disks themselves have been kept separately and long since lost. However, there were a handful of titles that were complete along with a sealed copy of descent two for PC. Got the whole thing for 50 bucksbecause they really didn’t want to try and figure out how to broker a deal on old computer bits.

Previously I had: a big meanwell power supply with inline switch that ran through a splitter to the MiSTer, replaced with USB-C cable. A YC (composite/svideo) converter which plugged into the de9 port, and into which I plugged an svideo cable with a separate 3.5 -> stereo RCA cable plugged into the audio jack. The weight of all these cables had seriously gotten to where the MiSTer often tipped over. (Photos what I had, vs what I have now) #misterfpga #retrogaming #retrocomputing

Got my new Analog IO Pro board from https://misteraddons.com for #misterfpga installed today. The old board worked fine but in the years since its release there’s been a lot of nice QOL features people have added which required external dongles/converters. Now has an integrated YC converter and I can use Saturn AV cables which carry sound and audio both, uses USB-C for power, has an actual power button, and supports 24-bit color. #retrogaming #retrocomputing

I’ve actually had better luck than I expected just taking a regular photo with my iPhone and then changing the key frame for live mode to the best looking one. If that makes any sense.

I can’t speak to how well the game compatibility is nowadays, but it’s possible to mount your Windows drive and point your Linux install of Steam at it to not have to pick which OS games are installed to.

I actually have one and tried it, and it didn’t work. That is part of the reason it flummoxed me for so long. Now that I think about it, I bet it all started when I updated the bios a year or so ago, and I can’t undo it because it prevents rolling back to an older version for security or whatever reason.

If anybody remembers my saga of the #debian #linux server hosting #jellyfin that would lock up if a *real* monitor wasn’t plugged in. It’s a known issue with the hdmi on that model of NUC and guess I’m just keeping a monitor on it. Can’t get the latest BIOS to work on it and kinda sick of fighting it when I have a gazillion monitors. Sucks because it’s tiny, was cheap, is power efficient, and integrated gpu easily handles my transcoding needs but now a monitor follows it everywhere.

#debian #linux question: I’ve been having issues on a server that might be caused by booting through uefi. I’d like to backup my install, then do a fresh install that boots via legacy and restore. I guess it's time for a new #introduction since I just migrated here... I work in higher education as an LMS administrator (I make Canvas go) and fiddle with both retrogaming and retrocomputing. I'm particularly active with the #misterfpga community and have been playing through classic CRPGs on my #appleii
