It’s hard to believe that this is already my third week of making this What I Listened To Post. Seems like time is just flying by, which it clearly is. This week, I played a few more tracks compared to last week, so hopefully there’s more music, tracks and artists for all of you to discover. Let’s jump in and provide all the stats!##
Total Tracks Scrobbled
[Last weeks total scrobbled tracks](https://www.seerofsouls.com/what-i-listened-to-june-21st-june-27th/ ) was 1,387 so this week I only listened to 29 more tracks. Guessing this might be about the average that I listen to each week, but time will tell as we continue listening and scrobbling to music as much as possible.
Let’s break down the top artists that I listened to this past week and see what, if anything, has changed.
Again, there is absolutely no surprise that Taylor Swift is my top listened to artist. What is cool is that my top new artist this week is Calva Louise, which is an artist I just discovered from someone else about two to three weeks ago.

A new little section I’m adding to this weekly post is the genre tag cloud. I found a site that lets me generate this [genre tag cloud image](https://tagcloud.rainosullivan.com ) with only a couple of clicks and I feel this will let others see what various genres of music I listen to each week.
Obviously the bigger, bolder genres are the ones I listened to more than the smaller, less bold genres. There are a couple of genres listed more than once, so maybe next week I allow the tag generator to do less tags as this week it was set to 50.

July 4th (also known as Independence Day) is an annual American holiday that falls on, you guessed it, the **4th of July**. While you’re thinking of fun 4th of July ideas for this year’s celebration (like planning a trip to see the best fireworks, shopping great sales or sharing meaningful quotes on social media), you may wonder about the 4th of July’s history and its meaning to the USA as a nation.
This day is very significant in American history. It marks the day the [Declaration of Independence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Declaration_of_Independence ) was adopted (July 4, 1776) and the United States officially became its own nation. American citizens celebrate America’s birthday with festivals, parades, fireworks, barbecues and other festive activities.
America declared its independence from Great Britain. In order to fully understand the significance of Independence Day and what happened in 1776, we need to go back in history a bit. Before America was its own country, it was comprised of 13 Colonies established by the Brits: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The first Colony was settled in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. European countries, especially Great Britain, continued to colonize America throughout the 17th century and a good portion of the 18th century. By 1775, an estimated 2.5 million settlers lived in the 13 Colonies.##
How Do You Celebrate July 4th?Many modern Independence Day traditions stem from America’s early independence celebrations. People would attend bonfires, concerts and parades to celebrate their new nation. It was also common for the Declaration of Independence to be read aloud, followed by muskets and cannons firing. It’s safe to say that the earliest Americans celebrated the 4th of July loudly and proudly!
For me personally, I don’t really celebrate too much. Mainly because I have two cats and like most animals, my cats don’t like the sound of fireworks. It scares them to a point where they want to hide and just get away from it all.
While I think fireworks are pretty to watch, I don’t really participate in popping them either. Again, mainly because I have cats that don’t like them. I’ll sit outside and watch them, or even a couple of years ago I was in the nations capital, Washington DC, for July 4th which was a super cool experience as it’s something I had never experienced before.

Last week I decided to start a weekly post to share the music that I’ve been listening and scrobbling over to LastFM for the prior week. This week, I played a lot more music compared to last week, so hopefully there’s more music, tracks and artists for all of you to discover. Let’s jump in and provide all the stats!##
Total Tracks ScrobbledAs stated above, this week was a much bigger week for the amount of music I listened to throughout the week compared to last weeks 947 total tracks. I beat that by a whopping 440 tracks for a total of 1,387 tracks scrobbled.
The question here is, what exactly did I listen to during the week and how do we break that all down when it comes to artists and tracks?
With no surprise here again this week, Taylor Swift is the artist I listen to the most. While my playlist is always on shuffle, Taylor just comes up on my playlist more often than any other artist. I expect this will be the case for most all weeks going forward as well.
Last week we also had Rascal Flatts, Linkin Park, Madonna and Lady A as the top five. This week, we switch two of those out and let John Michael Montgomery and Terri Clark into the top five.

Web browsers are something pretty much all of use on a very regular basis. I personally use [Vivaldi Browser](https://vivaldi.com ) which is of course based on Chromium by Google. It supports browser extensions, just like most every browser out there, and today, I’m going to list a few of the extensions I use pretty much each and every day. ##
[Awesome Screenshot](https://www.awesomescreenshot.com )This is an extension I have been using for years and years now. To me, it’s the best and easiest to use screenshot and recording tool for your browser. It has so many options that you can choose from to do just about anything you want when it comes to taking screenshots.
You can instantly share screenshots/recordings or just save them locally. If you have an [Awesome Screenshot](https://www.awesomescreenshot.com ) account, you can even upload them and have them saved to view at any time.
There is of course a free version and paid versions. I personally use the free version as it does everything I need. I feel if I needed better quality video recording, which is something I rarely do, then the $6 USD a month would certainly be worth it.
If you’re one who takes a lot of screenshots from within your browser, this is an extension I highly recommend.##
[Text Blaze](https://blaze.today )This is an extension I just discovered about 6 – 7 months ago, and it’s completely changed how I use my browser since I answer support emails as part of my job with Nova Launcher.
Text Blaze allows you to create snippets to text messages you type frequently. Let me explain what I mean by this.
If you type the same response to an email or something similar on a regular basis, [Text Blaze](https://blaze.today ) allows you to setup a snippet with a / that you can use to type all of that text but by doing so only with a couple of letters.
Since February 4th, 2024 I’ve used 1,691 snippets and have saved myself 66+ hours of typing time. Not bad for only four months of use.
I could something like /review and have it setup so that it automatically types out an entire review request template that I would send to a company when I’m wanting to review their product(s). Instead of taking several minutes of typing, it’s literally only a couple of seconds or so at most.
Throw in the fact that Text Blaze has numerous options for formatting those text responses that it’s almost mind blowing what all it can do. You can check out their docs page here: [Text Blaze Docs](https://blaze.today/docs/ ).
Text Blaze is of course free, but also has Pro options too. I personally pay for Text Blaze Pro, which is only $35.88 USD per year. ##
[Proton Pass](https://proton.me/pass )There are a lot of password managers out there, and over the years I’ve used several of them from LastPass, 1Password, Bitwarden and now [Proton Pass](https://proton.me/pass ).
I made the switch from Bitwarden to Proton Pass simply because I had made the move from Gmail to Proton Mail 8 – 9 months ago. With that switch, since I pay for Proton Mail, I also get full access to Proton Pass.
It allows you to import all of your passwords from other password managers which made the switch super simple. Then, once I visit any site that I’ve got a login for, it will allow me to enter my username and password at the click of a button. This saves me from having to remember all of my passwords to everything.
Throw in the fact that you can of course generate passwords based on certain criteria which allows you to have safe and secure passwords that should be hard if not impossible for someone else to get. You can even securely share passwords with others if you’d like or have a need.
It also has a feature called Pass Monitor. Our advanced security center, Pass Monitor, keeps you safe by checking for security threats to your accounts. It includes: Proton Sentinel, Password Health, Inactive 2FA and Dark Web Monitoring alerts.

[Simplify For Gmail](https://simpl.fyi )While I don’t use Gmail for my personal email any longer, I do use it for work email and that’s something I can’t change. So to make it look better and more useful, I have been using [Simplify For Gmail](https://simpl.fyi ) for 2 – 3 years now, if not longer.
Simplify is a unique approach to solving bad design. It is software (browser extensions for now) that modifies the products you already use. While browser extensions that modify apps aren’t new, there aren’t many that are high quality, well maintained, and opinionated.
Simplify is made and maintained by [Michael Leggett](https://leggett.org/ ). Michael was Gmail’s design lead from 2008 to 2012 and a co-founder and design lead for Google Inbox. With the unfortunate demise of Google Inbox, Leggett wanted bring the simplified email experience to Gmail. Thus, Simplify Gmail was born on April 2, 2019.
As with most of these extensions I’ve listed so far, Simplify has a free and a paid version. I pay for Simplify simply because it’s so cheap, but Michael is someone I like to support since he makes a great product. I believe it’s only $36 USD per year and that allows you to use it with several email addresses. ##
Final ThoughtsThe above extensions are just a few of the ones I use each and every day. There are certainly others, but these are likely my favorite and/or most used. They will work with most any browser that is based on Chromium by Google and that supports extensions. Most of these also have a Firefox compatible extension for those that use Firefox. Several of these will likely work on mobile as well I’d assume.

[Nova Launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher ) has been around for well over 12 years at this point and has been the number one ranked 3rd party home screen replacement app in the [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/ ) for most of that time. Nova has tons of features that users find useful when it comes to various ways they can customize their home screens and even app drawers. Today, I’m going to give you my top three favorite Nova 8 Beta features that I use and enjoy the most.
One thing to note about these features is that they might require you to purchase and to use [Nova Launcher Prime](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime ). Currently the price for Nova Launcher Prime is $4.99 USD.##
Backup And RestoreNova has an option that allows you to backup and restore your Nova Settings. This is something I use pretty on a daily basis since I am often testing things for other users trying to reproduce bugs/issues or other things. I often have to restore a Nova backup that they send to me and after I’m done, then I can easily restore my personal Nova backup and get my home screen setup back how I like things.
This makes it super simple to get back to using my device how I’m familiar with using it without having to set things up from scratch every time.
One thing to note here is that Nova backups do not and can not backup most web shortcuts(or similar shortcuts), your wallpaper or widgets. Nova will put a placeholder where you had widgets, but it won’t restore the widget itself as Nova doesn’t know if that widget is a paid-for widget or not, and we don’t want to allow anyone to restore a widget that isn’t free.
Another good use for this is for those that like to customize things regularly or simply want different setups at different times. They can make as many Nova backups as they want, and then restore one for a certain use case. ##
Swipe Up And Swipe Down On App IconsThis is likely my favorite Nova feature of all time. This feature allows you to access apps, various Nova Settings or even shortcuts via a swipe up or swipe down on an app that’s on your home screen. What this feature really does, is allow you to have fewer app icons on your home screen, but still access numerous apps. This is extremely useful for those that don’t like to clutter their home screens with app icons.
As you can see by my screenshot above, I have swipe up on the Slack icon set to open my Bank Of America app and then I have swipe down set to open up the Door Dash app. As stated above, this allows me to access three different apps, but only having one app icon on my home screen. Super convenient and super fast to access.
There’s a lot of stuff you can access via these two methods, as you can open certain apps to a certain screen or section within the app if you wanted. Or you can have them open up the Recent Apps screen, Nova Settings and so much more.##
Nova Search Micro-ResultsThis is a feature that’s not really advertised or mentioned much of anywhere, but back when Nova 7 was in very early beta, or maybe even alpha stages, Kevin added something really fun and neat to Nova’s search and those are called Nova’s micro-results.
As you can see by the couple of screenshots above, I have used the Nova search bar on the home screen, though this works from the app drawer too if you have a search bar added there, you can search for something like 32F, or any temperature and it will convert it to 0C in the results. You can do the same for something like 50ft and other things.
I chose to search to see how many tablespoons thirty teaspoons equals, which as you can see it converted it to 10 tablespoons. In the other example above I had it perform a little math equation by having it add, subtract and multiply some random numbers.
Below is a list of most of the things that Nova’s micro-results can currently do. Hopefully in the future this is something we can expand on.<li>Caclulator (2+2)</li><li>Unit converter (10F or 10oz to g)</li><li>Open URL in (<a href="https://novalauncher.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://novalauncher.com/</a> and it’ll let you pick which web browser)</li><li>Maps for addresses (1234 W State St)</li><li>Call/SMS for phone numbers</li><li>Direct links for package tracking numbers</li><li>Direct link for flight tracking numbers</li><li>Direct link for Bitcoin/Ethereum addresses (blockchain.info)</li>##
Access Google DiscoverThis isn’t necessarily something I personally use, but tons of Nova users do and it’s something that was highly requested when Google launched this years ago. The ability to swipe from left to right on the home screen and access Google Discover which is Google’s little news like feed. This is something Nova has had for years now. Unfortunately it does require you to install the Nova Google Companion app due to limitations and restrictions by the Google Play Store. You can find it here: [Nova Google Companion](https://novalauncher.com/nowcompanion ).
Once installed, then you can simply go to Nova Settings -> Integrations -> Feed -> Google and it will be enabled. From there you can swipe to access Google Discover and read all the news related stuff just like you can via the Pixel Launcher where this feature is built-in.##
Final ThoughtsThere are many other nice and handy features that Nova offers, but these are some of my favorite or some of the most popular among Nova users. All of these features are available in the current stable version of Nova which as of this writing is Nova 8.0.18. They do not require you to be using a beta version for any reason. As stated in the beginning of the article however, some of them may require you to purchase [Nova Launcher Prime](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime ) which is currently only $4.99 USD and it’s a one time purchase per email address.

As kind of a follow up to yesterday’s post which was [Five Words That Describe Who I Am](https://www.seerofsouls.com/five-words-that-describe-who-i-am/ ), I figured I’d do another “get to know me” style post. Today I’m going to discuss briefly a few things I like to do while I’m not working.
This is likely something we’re all asked about at various times and I feel it’s a great way for others to get to know who we are and what we do in our spare time when not working, which is something we likely all tend to do quite a bit.##
Video Games***Video Games*** is something I’ve been doing since I was 5 – 6 years back in the mid 1970’s. Yes, I’m that damn old, but that’s another post for another day. To get a brief history about that, you can read my post titled [How I Got My Passion For Tech](https://blog.allthingstech.social/how-i-got-my-passion-for-tech/ ).
Playing ***video games*** is something I’ve always enjoyed and something that helps me remain calm, relax and just enjoy life so to speak. ***Video games*** is my go to when things are stressful or things have been busy at work and I just need a little break. I’m currently 53 years old and still playing ***video games*** after nearly 50 years of life and I feel it’s something I’ll keep doing until I simply can’t. ##
Spending Time With My WifeThis is something that I do for many reasons. First and foremost, it keeps my marriage and my relationship in a great place. I also do it because we have a ton of fun doing whatever it is we are doing. Regardless if it’s playing video games, which we do play together quite often, shopping, or just sitting on the couch and watching TV.
Since my dad passed away in July 2021, I’ve realized that family is even more important than it ever was before. I try to spend as much time with her as possible while I’m not working. But I do it because I enjoy it and not because I need to or anything similar.
Since we both have a very similar sense of humor, this too helps me unwind, settle down, rest, relax after work as I can just sit and laugh and cut up with her and that makes life so much fun. ##
ShoppingYes, ***shopping*** is something I like to do. Not necessarily buying things, but just going to the mall or whatever and just looking around. This also goes back to the “spending time with my wife” section above. This is something we both love to do and it gives us more time to spend together.
***Shopping*** for the most part is relaxing to me and often very enjoyable. I can just leisurely walk around the mall, look at stuff, buy a few things if necessary, and just enjoy the time. Oddly, the wife and I go to the mall quite often, walk around for an hour or so and when it’s time to leave, we’re empty handed. Spending money just isn’t always necessary.
When it comes to grocery ***shopping***, let’s say at Walmart, even that can be decently fun. It allows us to look for any new food products that have been released that we might be interested in. When it comes time to check out, that’s where the fun ends, as we all know checking out at Walmart is a job within itself usually.##
Final ThoughtsThese are just a quick three things that I like to do outside of work. I don’t want to make this a long, drawn out blog post, so I thought I’d keep it short.

It’s a great way for us to let people know what we like, what we do, how we are and other things. So I have decided that I’d make a blog post about it and that I’m going to list five words that describe me and who I am.
I encourage anyone else who reads this blog post to either comment with a few words that you feel describes you best or even make your own blog post and do the same. I’d love to see others that follow me do either so we can all learn a bit about each other. So let’s jump in and get started.##
CheerfulI feel I’m almost always a ***CHEERFUL*** person. I’m rarely ever in a bad mood, upset, angry or anything similar. Even if I am, I try my best to never show it publicly.
To me, I feel it’s just a negative in life to not be ***CHEERFUL***, and we already have enough negativity in this world and not being ***CHEERFUL*** would just add more negativity that we don’t need.##
Considerate***CONSIDERATE*** is something I was taught as a kid growing up by both my parents and my grandmother on my dads side, whom I call Nana. It’s simply something that was ingrained into me from day one and it’s something that has stuck with me for the entire 53 years of my life.
I personally feel being ***CONSIDERATE*** is much easier than not being ***CONSIDERATE***. Maybe it’s just because it’s been a part of my life all along.
Most people find it very pleasing to hear someone else be or speak in a ***CONSIDERATE*** way, such as saying thank you, yes ma’am, yes sir or whatever else. In a lot of ways, this ties into being respectful. ##
PunctualBeing ***PUNCTUAL*** is another thing that I was taught to be by my dad at an early age as well. He always told me, it’s always good to be early and/or on-time for everything you do as it shows you care about what you are doing or about to do.
I’ve always been ***PUNCTUAL*** when it comes to showing up for work, to meet friends or family for dinner or something similar. Not only am I ***PUNCTUAL***, but I’m always ***PUNCTUAL*** by quite a bit. By that I mean, when it comes to needing to be somewhere at a certain time, especially when I was working outside of the home, I am/was always 20 – 30 minutes or more earlier than I needed to be. My dad was the same way and it’s something that I’ve always followed his lead in being in the same way.##
StraightforwardThis one is a bit tricky, simply because it can be both a good thing and a bad thing at times. Being ***STRAIGHTFORWARD*** means you often say things directly as you feel or without beating around the bush.
I have always felt that being ***STRAIGHTFORWARD*** is the way to go and let’s others know exactly how you feel or what you’re thinking. Again, this can be both a good thing or a bad, just depending on the situation. In a lot of ways, this is very similar to being blunt, which again, can be both good and bad. It’s certainly something that those of us who are ***STRAIGHTFORWARD*** often have to explain ourselves a bit more just so people understand correctly what we mean by the things we say.##
ThoroughThis is yet another word that I was taught at a very young age, though also expanded on it as I got older. I have always been ***THOROUGH*** in everything I do, and even when I speak. Some times it leads to people saying I speak too much or explain things too much. But that’s just who I am and me being ***THOROUGH***.
I guess a lot of it comes from my education, not only in school but by my dad and by my Nana. They were both the same way and it’s something that’s carried on with me over the years. I’d rather explain things more ***THOROUGHLY*** than to under explain them and have people not understand or have questions. This is extremely important to me in a work environment.
There are obviously many other words that can and could be used to describe myself, but these are the first five that quickly came to mind when thinking about making this a blog post.

I’m one who listens to music constantly while I’m at my PC which is often 12+ hours per day. I work from my PC at home and I also game from my PC at home, so the chance to listen to music for hours on end is extremely high.
I decided the other day that I wanted to look into scrobbling my music again to something like [LastFM](https://www.last.fm/user/MrCliffWade ), and come to find out, the YouTube Music app that I use actually has this feature built right into it.
So I decided to fire it up, get it working and start scrobbling so that others can see what I listen to each and every day. As you’ll quickly see, I listen to a lot of different types of music, from country, 80’s music, alternative and more. There’s not much that I don’t listen to.
With all of that said, I’ve decided since LastFM gives me stats for each week, that I’m going to try my best to post those stats here to my blog every week and show off a bit of what I’m listening to with a few screenshots. So let’s get to what I listened to from June 14th to June 20th. Please remember, this is my first full week of scrobbling after many years of not doing so, so the charts you may see on my LastFM profile are likely small or incomplete.##
Total Tracks ScrobbledAs you see by the image above, starting last Saturday, I scrobbled 947 songs throughout the entire week. To me, that’s quite a few tracks if you ask me, and that’s with me having several meetings during the week which I don’t play music during that time. I also usually don’t listen to music while I’m gaming, so that’s another 30+ hours of time without scrobbling. So I feel 947 tracks is pretty impressive.
Thanks to LastFM, we can break that down a bit more and find out what exactly I’ve listened to throughout the week.
In the above screenshot, you’ll see I listened to 198 different artists across the course of the week. My top artists this week are as follows:<li>Taylor Swift</li><li>Rascal Flatts</li><li>Linkin Park</li><li>Madonna</li><li>Lady A(formerly Lady Antebellum)</li>

As I stated and showed above, I scrobbled 947 tracks during the week. However, LastFM shows the complete track list of everything I listened to and it shows that I only listened to and scrobbled 831 tracks. Regardless of the difference in numbers, that’s a recap of my listening and scrobbling for the week of June 14th – June 20th.
