man -Tpdf keeps that layout with the header and footer, man -Thtml doesn’t (and -Thtml also breaks tables)

steam would be so much better if the frontend/client was open source
keep the drm lib closed, it's shipped with the game, doesn't matter. but open up the client, it has no real reason to be closed except not allowing people to fix it's many flaws

so, distros patched openssl to use libsystemd to send a readiness notification
said notification is just sending `READY=1` to the datagram socked address in the `NOTIFY_SOCKET` env var
w-why is this a thing on libsystemd? you can just... tell applications to do that, it's not complex at the slightest

but that entails adding dbus support for you app... and if you're writing a simple gui app you probably don't want such a complex dependency
(which once again i'm mad at the over-reliance on dbus for configuration. this could've been a standardized config file format like mimeapps but noooooo dbus)

the client api is used to render the same info available from the ap api, just that many servers have auth_fetch on the ap one, and no auth on the client one, with just makes the auth in the ap one kinda useless for stopping malicious actors
and if you put auth on both... why have two apis?

ok how does this idea sound:
to have kinda like auth_fetch but for clients. when you log in a client you generate a key that goes to your home server. when you make a client<>server ap request, you include that key, and the receiving server can validate that against your home server, using an activitypub extension.
this would still allow servers to block servers, and it would avoid allowing malicious servers querying data using the client api, as well as being compliant with base ap
the only negative is that if your server *hard* requires this auth for every ap query, you won't have anonymous access, but then it's a trade off between hard blocking servers and allowing un-logged in users

@npub1ztf…nzmz couldn't you use chroots instead of containers? or have a wrapper script for codium that sets a new XDG_RUNTIME_DIR? (tho if you're on wayland, that will break wayland socket detection ://... but so would the process having a new mountpoint)
i think what i would do is have a script to build a chroot and link only the stuff needed to it (wayland-0 socket, pw-socket, /dev, etc), and just start apps from those chroots (or just a single tmux session in each) (actually this sounds quite like the useful tool to have as a setuid or CAP_*... hmmm... another thing to the list of ideas :3)
or i'd be lazy and just install every tool on my main system anyway :blobfox3c:

in plan9, the filesystem mounts are per-process, so something like that might be easily possible (i'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like it)

(i know ostree is not what gives immutability, but it's the most used tool to pair with it)

you're not supposed to edit anything outside of /etc /home /var and /usr/local... everything else is managed my the package manager and assumed immutable, on most systems, changes to files in /usr or basically anywhere not listed up there, are overridden in package updates/reinstalls
my 'out-out' of immutability is simply running `doas` (or `sudo`), and doing so entails me knowing what i'm doing.

newer folk won't be able to share the experiences they loved as a kid, with their kids, or just plainly relive them. i can boot up my dusty ps2 (or realistically, pcsx2) and relive gow, batman begins, even that bad g-force hamster spy game, the games i played as a kid.
preservation of media is *so* important, and companies now a days are making sure that it's harder and harder to do, so they can sell us remasters in a few years, or shove lootboxes, or etc.
and honestly, this shouldn't apply just to single player games, multiplayer games should also be made open (released server software) when support is ended (if not always, *bring back community servers!*). example: i don't like fortnite, but a kid that grew up playing it today should be able to 20 years from now when the game is dead, spin up a local server with friends and relive some of that.
it's so sad that pretty much anything after the xp era basically unplayable now, unless, piracy (the only solution to preservation, but still, only for single player experiences)
