At 70 - 80 % occlusion it is wild how bright it still is. But definitely also an eerieness to the light that doesn't pick up well in photos

Sure was a lot less pleasant due to the annoying beeps of construction equipment which feel especially to loud for the dessert.

Seems to be better options w improved longterm outcomes & fewer downsides for less $$. govt could help with some of those!

Iowa, like many "red" states is actually just a gerrymandered state. At a glance, because of the relatively few number of districts, this isn't apparent, but mentally overlay these two maps and it becomes rather clear. Simply divide up the adjacent blue counties and you get a good chance at 4 red districts instead of a likely 2R-2R or even 3D-1R as would be merited by the way population votes.

Got plenty of cute pics of kids over the holidays.
Even if I were still on the corporate social media platforms I'd be in the group of parents that are wary of sharing kid pics there for reasons ranging from privacy to consent to not wanting to help train AI models.
So, I'm curious what others use to share this sort of media with family and friends, and do you recommend it?
Considering just micro sd cards & homing pigeons. Most of us pretty much within homing pigeon distance. :dove_of_peace:

Running lots of air filters, opening a couple windows, having everyone test before they come, and even if negative to stay away if they have any symptoms. About 1/3 of our guests have had to miss because of this, but we have had holiday gatherings, and that has been nice!
Reasonable and effective precautions do not have to mean isolation. #CovidIsNotOver
Ironically it's been so warm here we could've just gathered outside. No white Christmas this year...

My kid (10) has gotten really into watch and clock repair. His latest success was this German Bradley travel alarm clock from the 1950s. He did a full service cleaning on it.
Getting the main spring back in was a challenge because it wasn't in a barrel, but his makeshift solution with zip ties got him past that.

@npub1su4…a0dw So one of the reason developers like @npub1em8…g250 hypothesized that actual alternative browsers on iOS are not allowed was to protect App Store profits, and not to say that is wrong, but a 36% cut of Google's revenue from default placement in Safari has to factor in too!
Though it only emphasizes how underfunded Safari development was for so long given how much revenue it was generating.

- Tire particulate & noise pollution
- Massively increased impact risk - for other vehicles, pedestrians, animals, & insects
- Increase road wear
- etc.

My Father, an non-tech savvy, old Iowa farmer uses a Linux machine to help manage farm business stuff.

I really enjoy pets though I don't have any currently - they are just to much work, and I have kids, so being a so called pet parent has a lot less appeal. But yeah, they really do take a lot of resources the way most urban people treat them, and that is a problem/topic that feels very unapproachable.

Our 10yr old has gotten ***REALLY*** into mechanical watches & clocks to the point he's on the verge of starting a side gig repairing them. He mentions his hobby to everyone, and a lot of folks have a not-quite-working item sitting around. He's fixed a number of them.
He has had a tough time with an civil war era pocket watch, but was finally able to salvage a compatible part from somewhere, and he got it ticking today. He was so proud, and wants to share with everyone.

Isn't it a somewhat viable avenue to support a channel by watching it via nebula? Maybe advertising that you enable that channel of support to your Patreon supporters isn't the best, but on the other hand, if your supporters already have a nebula subscription they probably don't mind the prompt to further support you by watching there.
