While trimming the dahlias about to lose petals, I repositioned the stakes for a red dahlia and suddenly found another dahlia growing just underneath and in front of it. The flower has its edges nibbled, I think. I’m excited to see what it will look like fully open and whether more flowers will be produced.

The neighbor’s tuxedo cat is sitting on the retaining wall near the rocky garden. She just looks around, occasionally sniffing. Is she meditating? I’m hoping she’s not after the little frog I’ve seen in that area. Maybe she’s rethinking her life choices and vowing to be a better citizen.
Milli is pretty sure she’s the same shithead. I’m pretty sure Milli is correct.

The blueberry bushes are starting to show signs of ripening berries. The pink berries are difficult to judge, other than by size. It takes time to figure out every year.

There are three northern flickers in the huckleberry bush. It’s not an easy bush for medium sized woodpeckers to sit in, so they just kind of throw themselves into it and sit where they land. I’m glad they’re enjoying themselves!

Towhees are funny. They like to scratch around in the undergrowth but they’ll come out and grab a peanut if they feel like it. I never had one up on a feeder. They prefer finding things on the ground.
Watched the video: yeah it’s listing a bit. They don’t usually run that fast. They’re more hoppy. Hopefully safe in your yard while it heals.

I have a theory that the Universe is a bit perverse. If probability is always expressed as a ratio where neither side is known to be zero, then somewhere and somewhen in the Universe ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. And if anything can happen, the thing you don’t want to happen will happen whenever and wherever the Universe feels like playing dice.
Then I just giggle and don’t worry about it at all.

So far it’s been flower on, flower off, but I *might* have my first eggplant growing!
I started it indoors and it was doing nothing. I moved it outside because I thought it might die faster, but it seems to like outside better anyway.
