I think, funnily enough, that this is Facebook following ActivityPub more closely than Mastodon - specifically the parts around Inbox Forwarding, which Mastodon doesn't do.
It's the reason people invent things like #FediFetcher

Potentially, given the vagaries of ActivityPub, that could be the case.
That said, all the relays I have setup report their own useragents, for example:

I love mine.
I think it was mentioned in an image caption but it's possible to adjust the grind much more than the steps on the wheel by fiddling with the burrs. I don't know how many settings you get out of the combination of the two but it feels like quite a lot.
Additionally, even though the wheel is notched it's quite possible to do fractions. My current bean needs an 8.8 or thereabouts.
