Autocrats project their "power of divination" by propaganda on a range of possible outcomes.
That way, once the actual event comes, they have recorded off-the-shelf statements in their propaganda catalogue.
This sounds to me like one of such statements. Should the russians decide to end the SMO, they'll have statements from some of them proving to all that this had been the plan all along.
We tend to say nothing until we know more.
They tend to say everything until they know more.

But what they should really be focused on and worried about, is what the #world will look like in 10-20 years as a result of one of the few countries ever to give up nuclear weapons - #Ukraine - being attacked and threatened with nuclear bombs by one of its guarantors, and not being defended by the remaining ones.
What will our world look like? How many countries will get nukes because of this?

In 1994, #Ukraine was one of the very few countries in the world ever to give up its nuclear arsenal and demilitarise. Actual #nuclear disarmament!
In exchange, russia was one of the nuclear powers who committed to guarantee the #security, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Now, that very country - #russia - invaded non-nuclear Ukraine and constantly threatens to attack Ukrainians and those who uphold the Budapest Memorandum with nuclear bombs.
Think about that for a moment.

However, Russia has just crossed a major redline. Evacuating embassies in a panic sends the wrong response. I really hope that Biden, Starmer, Marcon, Duda, Meloni, Rutte and Bauer are preparing a proportional deterrence move and rationale. It will be needed soon.
Allowing ATACMS & SCALP to hit a couple 100-200km into russia remains, strategically, a very late, weak move, and will not deter Putin.

What most leaders in Western #Europe still don't get is that, for us, not seeing others as our enemies does not automatically guarantee that others won't see us as their enemy.
A few years after independence in 1991, #Ukraine gave up all its nukes and demilitarised almost entirely. Ukrainians felt no acrimony towards anyone. Ukraine signed friendship agreements with its neighbours. And still, a couple of decades later #russia had become its enemy.
European leaders must stop behaving foolishly.

That's what too many politicians still don't get. The more they try to compromise and appease, the more Putin thinks he's winning and successfully taking advantage of European little lambs.
A win-win is categorically impossible. So the remaining outcomes will be either win-lose, lose-win or lose-lose. At the moment, US and Germany policy is a lose-lose outcome, unacceptable to Ukraine and Russia, so the war goes on.

Perhaps a new European defence alliance is needed to replace NATO on operational and tactical levels, and a good opportunity to move forward without the likes of russian Hungary?
NATO has anyway been reduced to a US's enabler of American oversees wars, and security guarantor of the nuclear deterrent. The later remains very important, but European nations also need an active joint military force to push back against russian imperialist expansionism in Europe NOW.

Macron has been saying the right things for at least a year now. But the European alliance is far too slow for the fascist axis, and far too obsessed with unity to the lowest denominator (Hungary, Austria, Ireland, Portugal...) over security to the highest denominator (Ukraine, Poland, Denmark, Netherlands, Baltics...)
I really hope that Kaja Kallas and her team will manage to change that in the EU when she starts her new job.

Exactly. Ukraine has already given up nukes and a large part of its military back in 1994. Now it has lost hundreds of thousands of people, possibly millions if we include migration as a result of the invasion.
Asking #Ukraine to also give up its territory is insane, as well as being against our interests to allow #russia to control territory that brings them even closer to NATO borders.
Why would we want our no. 1 imperial expansionist enemy getting closer & closer to us in #NATO?
