a lot of us understand it, and you've highlighted how affected by stimulus that battery can become--especially without meds that help you cope. my wife and I have earplugs and escape plans/routes for when it becomes too much. some things, we don't even try to do if the cost is too high.
"people" will always expect you to be able to do what you can't, seek to shame you when you fail, and in general want you to conform to their convenience. it's ok to say no, especially when in good faith there's no way you can.

same. my experience is that the smaller the community, the more strict the monoculture. I jokingly refer to my hometown as a good community to have moved away from.
