I really don't understand the fanfare around Mark Carney. His supporters seem to hang every dream they've ever had on "Carney is going to do it!"
Seriously kids, he's a neoliberal investment banker. The chances that he's going to be markedly better than any Liberal or Conservative before him on the environment, housing, income inequality, or foreign affairs are astronomically bad.
If you want change, you can't expect it from a rich boomer running the country's dominant party.

@nprofile…m624 yeah I suppose that'd be ok, but the way Django treats `settings.py` as a sort of central "config all the things" would likely be problematic. I'd expect something a little more compartmentalised if I wasn't running a Django project but just wanted the ORM.

I was out #cycling with my wife and kid yesterday. Wife was on the cargo e-bike, kid on her little Frog bike, and me on my typical road bike with an unused FollowMe attached.
A family of four walking by stopped us to ask questions about all three, clearly interested. Dude just deadpans: "You don't even have a car do you?"
"Nope, that's our car", I say, pointing to the cargo bike.
"Wild" he says.
There's real #FuckCars energy out there, but I think modelling it helps inspire others.

@nprofile…0tvd well you can still use stuff like Syncthing to mirror data across your personal devices. I keep a lot of my stuff in Joplin and then sync it with my phone, k8s cluster, and Synology. No 3rd-party cloud required.

Essentially the thesis is that toxic masculinity favours dominance and eschews collaboration & inclusion, so merely redirecting current forms of masculinity towards a better purpose isn't enough. We need collaboration & inclusion to fight climate change.

@npub15vf…z6fh while I'm all for eating the billionaires, we can't use this sort of reasoning to successfully combat climate change.
Assuming an exaggerated total of 1000 billionaires in the world, at 8000 tonnes of CO2 each, that's still a fraction compared to the 80 000 000 emitted by the remaining 8billion.
We need action on both fronts, so framing this as "billionaires are the only problem" doesn't help.

Clearly all of these issues need to be addressed, but pretending that the solutions are simple is a line of reasoning that belongs with childhood.
