I consider myself a #GNU Evangelist. Learning about what #FreeSoftware was, including GNU/Linux, opened my eyes to so many things: governments aren't the only ones stealing individual rights, I know so much less about computers than I thought I did, the idea of code, I can make a difference without having to know anyone particular.

I'm employed as contract Engineer in the Metal industry. My workplace is not yet unionized, but I'm hoping to fix that. #Union member of the #IWW IU440. I don't have an engineering degree. After discovering Free Software I took my political scientist butt and found a call center job that paid for me to go to Community College to study Software Engineering, where I learned that I liked the idea of coding a lot more than I liked coding. The blessings of God put some great opportunities in my lap at just the right time.

I'm a #Libertarian and have been for over 20 years. The love of libertarianism is what lead me to first to a BS in #political science and later to falling in love with Free Software. These days I lean toward the left side of the libertarian spectrum including being a member of the Libertarian #Socialist Caucus of the Libertarian Party (LSC-LP). Sometimes I call myself a #LibSoc.

I'm a huge #sports fan, but don't following any particular sport/team super closely. Lately I've been getting into #Cricket in addition to my other passions of Professional #Wrestling, Lower Division North American #Soccer, NHL & College #hockey, #baseball #olympics & #rugby (union and #RugbyLeauge). My whole life used to be American #Football, but now-a-days I can't stand it anymore than I can basketball.

I'm a #BornAgain #Christian, accepting #Jesus as my savior at age 9. Received #Believers Baptism at age 18. Received the baptism of the #HolySpirit as evident in speaking in #tougnes later that year. The #Spirit lead me to the #Catholic #Church at age 20 where I was confirmed at the Easter Vigil. Maybe you have some particular reason to not want to do that, though if that's how you want to go I would definitely recommend moving to a larger pleroma instance, such as pythondevs.social, to lurk like such. Or you might want to follow some groups (rather than actual people) like lemmy communities (memes@lemmy.ml), friendica forums (devs@forum.friendi.ca), guppe gropus (sewing@a.gup.pe) & kbin magaizines (meta@kbin.social). I follow a lot of groups too so I'm a good place to look or pick from a lot more you can find easily at lemmyverse.net. I suspect pleroma will work like Mastodon in this regard in which every post and comment will appear in your feed as a "re-toot" from the group "user."

My own daughters are #Unschooled. We are specifically trying to avoid "Formal Training." The way you have described leaning from a curriculum without the assistance of a parent-teacher certainly leans more heavily in the self-directed learning that is colloquially referred to as #unschooling in our part of the world than the way the most 21st century Westerners would use the phrase formally trained @npub1cwt…qn8f. In your reply to @npub1khf…w2v4 and I you indicated that you prefer the CSB for regular scripture readings @npub1acz…j62z. By the CSB are you referring to the Catholic Standard Bible? I had never even heard of the CSB until I went to our local Catholic bookstore looking for a good leather-bound copy of the Doauy-Rheims (D-R) to compliment my electronic Catholic Public Domain Version (CPDV). Surprisingly I found almost exclusively this new CSB with only limited copies of the New American Bible (NAB) & New American Bible with Revised Psalms(NABRE). I found this particularly surprising as in my country only the NABRE is authorized for use within liturgical settings in English so most believers I know prefer to reference the same version for home study.

#MyWife won't let me watch #Marvel #Movies anymore because she is one of these people is all worried about "#spoilers" and she hasn't seen infinity wars, so we aren't allowed to watch anything that comes after it, and I think we got stuck even worse when the second part of a double feature we went to at the Ford Drive-In years ago was #Antman & The Wasp, which I think actually comes after Infinity Wars.
"spoilers" weren't a thing back in the 90s-00s and we could freely talk about what movies we saw, why we liked them, and we didn't have to time our arrival at the movie theater to make sure we got there after the trailers but before the movie started.
I find knowing how a movie ended is different than her being upset about knowing the joke before hand because of a trailer, or not getting understanding every nuanced inside-joke or time-line connection by not having seen every single episode before hand in the order it was release. It is not really the same thing, right? I often watch #sports #on-demand, but I won't if I already heard who won. (Occasionally I will for wrestling if I heard it was a great match, even though I inadvertently learned who won the match, but baseball/cricket/etc. not so much, highlights are always enough if I care).
This is why I haven't seen Star Trek: #Discovery, #Picard, etc. because she needs to have seen every episode from the #StarTrek pilot till the #Enterprise Series finale, even #Voyager, before she'll let me watch a new episode in her presence. Which would be OK if it meant I got to watch all those great old shows again, but we don't, because kids, and if we ever are able to get the #TV, she'd rather watch some "#streamer" play video games for some reason than watch Star Trek. 🖖

@npub1yxz…5qvv I work in the auto industry. All the old-guard are "learning" from Tesla. I really want to do something about it, but I feel like my hands are tied by capitalism. Even when engineers present traditional market reasons why designs are actually poor and Tesla customer satisfaction is like Porsche satisfaction, owners already decided they will love everything about it before they bought it, and even poor performance won't change their mind, management continues to act like copying Tesla is the gold solution they've been looking for.

In fact, I'd say that whilst the state exists it will be impossible for the workers to ever truly own the means of production. She may be a member of the Choctaw nation from her mom's side, but her pallet is definitely inherited from the Swedes on both sides of the family.
