Today a really strange account started to follow me, I could be wrong here but this definitely looks sus to me! The account is relatively new, seems to follow tons of random people and asks for donations to someone in #Gaza every few days. Could someone with more knowledge about potential #Hamas fundraising methods look into this to ensurer it's not a bad actor?

Question for all the #Lemmy users here, has the situation improved or is it still one of the worse antisemitic shitholes in existence? When I left Aljazeera and similar propaganda papers where all over the front page and none of the admins seemed willing to intervene, not even the politically moderate instances!

I just want to quickly say that I really appreciate @npub17td…apfk for their actually helpful articles on technical stuff! Search engines continue to get worse and many areas are almost entirely occupied by affiliate fueled trash, endless posts that hide the actual topic behind pages of cheap and empty text and horrible cookie banners. The amount of actually useful sites is scarily low by now and I feel like we often appreciate them far too little! :)

@npub1ug4…d762 In the long run their devices aren't nice to run Linux on unless you only care for Manjaro which seems to have some sort of deal with Pine64 and they will end as additional E-Waste. Yes I can reuse my Pinephone as minicomputer and that's great but it's not a very good use for most of the parts in that device and the fact that E.g. the screen or modem won't end in the trash only means it can't be recycled ether while I continue to use it as minicomputer! :/

@npub1ug4…d762 Beside of lacking quality control and other bad experiences (my Pinebook Pro didn't even last two months) that lack of core software support is one of the main reasons I will never ever buy another Pine64 device! If you sell devices to run Linux you don't have to go all the way like Purism and develope everything in house but you should at least have one or two people who work on the core to make life easier for distros and ensure certain issues actually get fixed for everyone! :/

@npub1w5z…rl8t awesome! I am a live long Firefox user but I also know multiple projects gave up because Mozilla treats Gecko as part of Firefox and ignores other implementations with their updates, has that changed or are you guys just doing it anyway? 🤔

I looked quite a bit for good ways to replace WebOS on my brothers LG "smart" tv with something more usable on a minicomputer but it's tough! I don't want Kodi to be the entire interface (I am sure some of you will disagree but to me and especially my none techy brother it's outdated and unintuitive) but that seems to basically be the open source option. A smart TV won't have any actually valuable data so I seriously consider some cheap Android tv box but that's far from ideal!

@npub1rnq…7anc Die Idee an sich finde ich ja gar... Ich meine ganz schlecht aber alte Autos sind das falsche Ziel. Die sollten wir mit allen Mitteln umrüsten statt wie aktuell aus mustern, neue müssen zum Klima neutral werden länger fahren wie wir noch Zeit haben und der Individualverkehr hat sowieso keine Zukunft was das auch so über haupt nicht klar stellen würde!

@npub1ahd…4p2e Ist nicht böse gemeint oder so, ich mag deinen Humor aber Mastodon als einer der wenigen Orte online ohne Algorithmus oder Redaktionelle Entscheidungen nutze ich als eine Art save space wo ich einfach nur folge was ich auch sehen will.

@npub1ahd…4p2e Ich habs auch noch nicht selber geschaut aber es klingt auf jeden Fall interessant! Eine der schlimmsten Firmen die der westliche Feminismus je gesehen hat macht einen feministischen Film, ein besseres Beispiel von gesellschaftlichem Wandel kann ich mir schwer vorstellen! Eventuell schau ich ihn ja auch noch aber die Firma werde ich dafür sicher nicht finanzieren.

@npub1ptm…2xku It's Mastodons core desing, the goal is to build a social network rather than a social media platform so it's about interacting with others rather than publicity. That has it's fair share of downsides but I really like it, find me another platform with such a great community because I think while it's better than Reddit that's where Lemmy can't keep up.

@npub1wst…ez75 @npub1tdp…w6tq Distrohopping is something I only did till I understood how Linux works well enough solve issues properly but it's always nice to see others having that realization because noone starts there! In the end your Distro is nothing more or less than a starting base if you like to tinker a lot and you have to find one you like first. :)
