Today I became an American citizen.
Nearly 20 years ago I came to the US for the first time, to visit my sister who was living here back then (interestingly enough, 2 miles from where I live today). Until then I was sure that if I'll immigrate to a different country from Israel, it would be to the UK where I am also a citizen. But back in 2004, when I was a few months shy of 18, I came to Boston and completely fell in love with it (yes, some of us actually like Boston). 7 and a half years ago, while working for Cybereason I made the move with my wife, about a year later we got a green card. A few years after that our daughter was born, here in the US. Pretty much since we moved here, we knew that we want to stay in the US. Immigration isn't easy, leaving our entire lives, families, and friends on the other side of the world, 12 hours of flight time away can be difficult, especially once kids get into the picture. But here we are, all 3 of us, my wife, my daughter, and I are American citizens. There is something about this country that immigrants such as myself truly appreciate. Sure, there are plenty of things to improve but there are also many wonderful things as well. It brings me great pride and joy to call myself an American. Plenty of my peers in the security world helped me throughout the years in the various immigration processes (recommendation letters for a green card, for example) and I thank them for their help, if it weren't for them - I wouldn't have been an American today.
So as an American - there is no better time than today to ask "What the hell is even a Kilometer?"

@npub1u3t…c6ug Ok. I'm all for it. Hamas said that there will be infinite October 7ths. They won't recognize Israel's right to exist and they will never ever agree to these terms. Who do you expect to arrive to the ICC from the Hamas side?
Do you REALLY think that anyone on the Palestinian side will agree to the 1967 borders? Really???
Who will assure Israel's security? What will happen if there'll be another attack?
Respectfully, It is pretty complicated, much more complicated than what you are presenting.

I made masto-rss to bring news websites that don't have fediverse accounts into our feeds. The best way to use it is in its docker container form (which is linked in the README.md file). I am adding features to it as I go. Right now, it is powering @npub13zl…n9cd. Check it out here:

@npub1y2l…rkf6 You can install pretty much any browser you want via the Linux VM. But yes, the entire system (chromeos) is heavily based and intertwined on/with the chrome browser. The architecture and design of Chromeos puts a lot of emphasis on security (not so much on privacy if google is your adversary) but once "cros" gets merged into the mainline branch, there will be more separation between the browser and the rest of the OS. Regarding the price, in most cases they are cheaper, but there are plenty of models

@npub1y2l…rkf6 I've been using a chromebook (Lenovo chromebook duet) for the vast majority of my every day computing tasks for two years now. Unlike an ipad/android tablet it runs an actual chrome browser, it has a Linux VM if I need to do some more serious things on it (like writing code, etc) and its battery lasts for days. For anything computing related that isn't too serious I use my chromebook

I went to see my primary care doctor due to a super violent cough that's been going on for 3 weeks now. My doctor asked me how I was doing (he knows I'm Israeli). I said "well, I lost my job, my country is in a state of war and there's a bunch of antisemitism everywhere". My doctor, a lovely, kind and soft spoken Muslim Pakistani-american gave me a hug and told me "people like you and I didn't leave our home countries and immigrated to America to be surrounded by this crap. Insane news coming out of Israel. Terrorists breached the Gaza border in the dozens (if not hundreds), going door to door in towns and just executing people in their homes. Women, children, everyone. Never ending rocket barrages. Just crazy. My family is in the center of the country and are taking shelter. While it's hard to assume that the fighting in the streets will get to where my family is, the rockets don't seem to stop. Absolutely insane. People are being slaughtered in their homes or being kidnapped to Gaza. What a collosal fuck up

I just noticed that I crossed 4k followers on mastodon. I joined after fleeing Twitter (where I had about 30k followers) a few months ago and I have to say - Mastodon is chill, the fediverse is an awesome concept (it's how the Internet should be!) And the amount of attention that social media takes in my life was reduced significantly to the point where my mental health was very positively affected by it.
Screw the rage baiting algorithm, screw the recreational outrage on the birdsite, and screw Elon.
