Would a self-hosted microblog be a good project for learning #rust? I’m always impressed by the simplicity of https://fabiensanglard.net/ and thought it’d be fun to implement something which indexes and processes markdown files to deliver the blog, but the impression I get is that rust is more targeted towards systems programming. Maybe #golang? I want a blog and I want to learn a newer language.

How well does moving from one mastodon server to another work? I love SDF but social.sdf.org has enough weird outages and issues that I'm considering it (and there's not enough of us on it to justify them really upgrading it.)

@npub1rar…q4yr I tried that. Didn’t work. Had to be a real monitor. May try ordering a different one just to see if it’s a compatibility thing. Since they’re cheap.

If anybody remembers my saga of the #debian #linux server hosting #jellyfin that would lock up if a *real* monitor wasn’t plugged in. It’s a known issue with the hdmi on that model of NUC and guess I’m just keeping a monitor on it. Can’t get the latest BIOS to work on it and kinda sick of fighting it when I have a gazillion monitors. Sucks because it’s tiny, was cheap, is power efficient, and integrated gpu easily handles my transcoding needs but now a monitor follows it everywhere.

The continued existence of .zip files and the difficulties some people have in using them is perplexing. Shouldn't systems more universally just treat a .zip as a filesystem and process it accordingly?

As I juggle both a Linux and FreeBSD server - is there a real good reason to pick one shell vs others? They naively seem similarly capable, and it's more a matter of just picking one with good tutorials and running with it? I'm hardly a shell-scripting wizzard. #freebsd #linux
