Every security scanner at #Rome FCO has a big clear sticker saying "Not film safe", and they guided me to the right gate for a hand check. Everyone seemed "film aware". It's incredibly humbling that they've put in the effort to do this. It is a ridiculous hobby , and there's no reason anyone has to help us keep it going , but when they do, it's like getting a big hug.
And another shout out to London City airport, it wasn't as official, but the staff were on it in a heartbeat.

Does anyone think 35mm slide film is worth it nowadays, given that printing has to go via digital nowadays? Supposedly it's all about the pop on the lightable, I kind of feel like that really going to kick in at 120 and up.

Just "discovered" Jane Bown (in quotes because dozens of her photos are baked into my psyche without me ever realising it).
Portraiture isn't really my thing, but her works definitely resonates. All windowlight, all black and white, and really timeless. There's some good stuff on youtube, not much on instagram.

Staining catechol based dev. This is #halfframeclub #IlfordHP5Plus . Nice fine grain, well masked by the stain, and very sharp. Scanned easily (easier than 510 for me)

Final thoughts on the #pentax17 . I'm not likely to buy one any time soon. But a big part of the reason for that is that I have 3 camera CLAs to pay for, which are (in total) going to cost me more than one of these.
That alone is possibly more of an argument for the Pentax than against it.

I picked up this wide angle adapter for my Rome trip, just to have the option.
The viewing lens seems to be a yashinon, and the taking lens isb a Sun. Bit dodge, not in the listing. But they do /seem/ to be a good match at close focus and infinite.

Just ordered a 90mm Schneider Super Angulon f)8 for my 4x5. It seems to be a bit of a work horse, and prices are reasonable. Strangely enough they seem to be readily available in the UK.
Not sure I'll get much front movement out of it on the mpp, but I don't think that's such a big deal with wide angles

Personally I'm going to be muting any accounts on my timeline that post candid photos of people down on their luck, or the typical lecherous pics of strangers.
I'm not opposed to people in photographs, but if you want to tell stories about someone, I want to be damned sure you had their consent.

Dev'd my latest two rolls. My recently serviced om1n has light leaks (one of the seals does look fucked), and some frames from my hasselblad roll from today has the weird edge leaks.
I've already changed seals on that back and think it's either some internal reflections, or the back fit against the body.
I'm very grumpy.

This is no good for judging grain, 'cos compression. If anyone is interested i the raws I can provide. All the strips were "scanned" at the same exposure and roughly the same scale.
23RX is either doing something freaky/clever, or the dev times were way out (it's 15 minutes). It's sold as "low contrast", but it's the only one that I judge didn't get close to box speed, though they claim it can actually boost it.

Suprising Pyrocat HD finding. The dev didn't come out of the tank brown. It has for all the other staining devs I've tried (510 and OA). Pyrocat came out milky white, though the neg does have the expected stain.

I think I'm going to have to do sone proper developer testing soon. I know, I normally frown on such things. But I'm curious. I think half frame is where I really care about these things. I'll try some 400 iso films in rodinal, fx55, 510pyro and the weird bellini pyrocat I bought.
I'm thinking I'll do a flash exposure of a repeatable still life scene with sone textures and tones.
Will try prints and scans.

Anyone else wondering how much the sales of the x100v and x100vi are being driven by speculators?
It's a weird market dynamic at the moment where Ricoh and Fuji somehow can't make compact cameras fast enough, but every other manufacturer has walked away.

I chronically over exposed this shot, my 7th #largeformatphotography , by accidentally placing my shadows +2, so that's atleast 4 stops. I need to try shooting this with a green filter to try and get the red type on the signage to pop (it's the main reason I'm obsessed with this taking this picture).

I just scanned and #darktable'd a roll of #IlfordHP5Plus developed in rodinal (1+50, 11 mins) . I always complain that hp5 is flat, but these came out great! (Straight inversion and auto leveled for shadow and highlight, which I have as a fixed style for b&w, no curve tweak other that straight line inversion).

Honestly. whenever I use ordinal I always wonder why I bother using anything else.
Cheap
Small bottle
Lasts forever
Reliable dev times
I know it's not the supposed to be good for pushing, but that's not something I do that often.
If 510 pyro is expensive (pre mixed), and an annoying consistency.

If you trust the word of someone who has only ever bought and used 1 C41 chemistry kit...
The Bellini chems seem very good. I ran 8 rolls in total I think, the kit suggest it can do 14. There was 5 months between my first and last rolls, and it seems to have held up. I've run out of c41 film now anyway.
It's nearly half the price of other kits (£40 in the UK).
I probably won't be doing c41 again until/unless Harman have another colour film, but if I do, I'd buy this again.

Grabbed a couple of hours of #darkroom time today. Quite pleased with the orchid print (from half frame), though I damaged the emulsion somehow. Pigeon was a 5 minute rush job, printed the wrong way, and I think I want a square crop.

Getting close! Lens board arrived, mounted the lens. It even closes with the lens in (this one is bigger than the standard, so that wasn't guaranteed, there must be millimeters in it!). I have a cheap fresnel on the way.
Things remaining:
- a loupe (yeah, I know I can use a 50mm but want something small)
- film (foma100 I think)
- 4x5 sleeves

I just tried the filmomat Shutter Speed app. It's supposed to work with a hardware widget they sell, but for slow speeds, it works it seems to work without it. Worth a try if you need such a thing.
(I couldn't resist the lighter fluid, and the shutter in my new lens now seems to be bang on)

My first attempt at buying an MPP failed when the ebay vendor didn't respond. I did the worst thing and panic bought a more expensive model (even minus a lens, or holders). Definitely paid over the odds, but it is here!
MPP Technical Mk8, double drop triple extension bed, front tilt,swing rise, back tilt and swing.
Below seem good, all movements smooth.

Prints! Split graded, negs seemed very thin, though they don't look /that/ bad to the eye, it ended up being f/16, 2s at grade 0 , 4s at grade 5 (I normally print f/11 and starting with 7s). I tried some intermediate grades but couldn't get the highlights to pop (and the short exposure time, and their location, made dodging tricky). Fortunately both prints were the same exposure, taken within a minute, so ended up with identical settings.

First #darkroom printing for a while. After saying I needed to try more techniques, I ended up having to do my first split grade! Also tried a marginally successful reprint at a smaller size. Negs were very thin, and medium format, my crap eyes struggled getting grain in focus. Will post a proper picture tomorrow

@npub1hu7…4g0d my first was s zeis ikon nettar, followed by a kodak jnr 6x9 folder. I didn't really enjoy 120 until I got my MPP Microcord though. The first time i got a shot i really loved with it I almost immediately brought my hassy 500cm.

@npub1h56…ch5t it's crazy how shallow the DoF is! I like how the farther branches of that tree are just ghosty wisps and the foreground roots look like a fairytale swamp.
None of this is intention on my part :) Frankly I'm amazed any of them were vaguely sharp (they are all f/4 at 1/125 on the 150mm, hand held, trying to run&gun after 25 four legged maniacs, and I think I got 8 or 9 keepers out of 12). It'll be 35mm next time!)
