I like the idea of a Web Monetisation API. Imagine using a PWA, you really enjoy it and spot a little banner that tells you you could pay a tiny sum for it every time you use it. You accept.
Now you’re paying a subscription for a piece of software because you *want to* and only if you actually *do* use it. You can stop paying at any point, you don’t lose anything.
But the dev might earn a little pocket money, all without ads or shady data stealing.
And it could work for blogs, videos, …

I believe the reason it is being bundled in the first place is because some of my Vue components in the project are being hydrated, so when they import the link map, Vite thinks the component needs to be able to be able to generate that map—which is not true, the module generating the link map does so only once and then exports just the maps, not the function to create them. 😅
I’ve tried passing the generated maps down from Astro as props, but I still had the generator in my bundle. 🤔

Okay this is a bit of a long shot, but maybe one of you has an idea:
In one of my multi-lingual #Astro websites, I’m generating a link map using a glob import of all pages and their content (basically a map of all file paths before build pointing to the URLs of the final pages in their languages), so I can just use the original path when writing my links.
I just want the map included in my build, not the entire glob import—is there a way I could achieve that in #Vite? 🤔

I found it super hard to add as a search engine on default Firefox though, I remember having to jump through some hoops because I didn’t want to use their extension. 😅

oh okay, what did you not like about them? 🤔 It always just seems a bit „too good to be true“ to me. 😅
I’ve been using them for years by now, because I never liked the DDG results and Google started throwing a consent form in my face in every visit (I basically browse 100% in incognito because I’m using Firefox Focus on my phone). 😅

have you heard about https://uberspace.de/en/? It’s not free after the free trail, but it’s an excellent place to start with a clear path forward for those who remain hooked after the course. 😊 Their pricing model is very nice.
Otherwise I always suggest my students host their first sites on Netlify, but there’s also Surge and Vercel, although people should be wary of how harsh they can become when you start exceeding bandwidth limits. 😅

to be honest, I don’t have much Twitter nostalgia. 😅 I loved the app I used to read my feed with (Flamingo), but other than that it was just a place to stay updated. 😅
On the Fediverse, I have a sense of community, I feel like I’m interacting with people, it’s just more personal in a way. 😅
But the good thing is that with all these new platforms everyone can pick what they like best. 😊

that’s what I thought, too, but selecting all posts with the checkbox in the web app only selects those that are already loaded, which is typically only the first twenty, unless you scrolled to the bottom of the list) and clicking delete when there’s more than a couple selected takes so long it feels the app broke. 😅
Could be that I missed something, but I’ve been using this setup for at least half a year now and it just became too annoying. Hope it’ll work for you! 😊

I really like it as well, but I’ve just switched away from it for my RSS feeds for now, it was just a bit too clunky.
I was especially missing an action to quickly delete all posts from my feeds, which could number in the hundreds in a single day. 😅

Gridsome was my default for a bunch of years, it sadly it seems abandoned, so I switched to Astro a couple years back and haven’t looked back since. 😊 It is great, has momentum and I like that I could take it with me if I switched, say from Vue to Svelte somewhere down the line. 👌
Although I must say, I’m really happy in the Vue ecosystem, it strikes just the right balance between stability, maturity, power and approachability for me. 😊

My current website is still using Gridsome with some custom transitions I built in Vue. 😊
I’ve been wanting to move it over to Astro forever now, but I have too many other things to do at the moment. 😅

Great website by the way. The only thing that bothered me a little was the blur effect on the mobile menu, somehow that made it look less pristine to me, maybe just having it an opaque white would fit the style of the site better? 🤔 But that’s a matter of taste. 😊

a getPlaceholder() or getRawImage() function that applied the transform pipeline immediately and returned the ArrayBuffer would be great, that way we could very flexibly request placeholders in the size/format we need using the same options format as getImage().
Oh well, one can dream. 😅 Or maybe I should open a feature request on GitHub. 🤔

well then at least what I’m doing can’t be too wrong. 😅
I saw someone mention the possibility of adding the raw image data as part of the result of an imported image (similar to how it already contains info on the width and height)—that would be very useful.
At some point I tried reading the files from the _astro directory during build, that’s when I noticed that they weren’t there yet even after calling getImage() and found out that the generation happens later. 😅

that’s part of what I’m doing, but that doesn’t give me the image data, only paths. 🤔 Apparently importing with a ?raw query corrupts the data.
I ended up falling back to loading the file from the file system via Node to get the raw data and generate the placeholder. 🤔 That has the benefit of me being able to use the same code for remote images which I’m fetching via fetch(). 😊
Initially I had hoped to use the image pipeline via getImage() to integrate the generation.

I’m very much in the same situation as you. 😅 I don’t have a Framework and won’t be getting one any time soon, but based on my experience with an Asus laptop running Fedora, performance isn’t going to be an issue for any dev work and light design work. Battery life, however, is a whole different story, especially standby time. Nothing can even come close to my Mac in regards to that. 😅
Oh that, and fan noise / thermals. 😅

you could look into @npub1nx8…kl34’s realtime preview feature. That would allow you something like that, although it would involve some boilerplate code to get the preview going.
Doesn’t support real-time collaboration though, it’s still asynchronous via Git. And might be overkill if you’re just looking for a Markdown editor. 😅

Ugh, is it really *that* difficult to get custom image placeholders in @npub1d33…yg52 for local and remote images, or am I just dumb? 😅
Does anyone have good strategies to get raw image data out of the `getImage` function? 🤔 Ideally, I’d want my transformer to generate a tiny placeholder image in addition to the different sizes but return it as a Buffer, so I can extract the dominant colour and generate a Thumbhash from it. 😅

what helped me when I was that age was having a couple of “beta readers” that were my age. They kept asking how the story would continue and give input with their own ideas and theories. That exchange really kept motivation high and gave me new perspectives when I was stuck. 🤔
And as a more specific tool, I eventually discovered outlines for myself, just a bullet list of (roughly) what still needed to happen/was going to happen until the end. 😊

one thing that helped me (eventually) when the worst thing of my life happened to me a while back was to internalise: this too shall pass.
It’s okay not to be positive all the time, it’s okay to admit you’re hurt and sad and perhaps even feel broken.
But keep going, and it *will* get better again. It just takes time. A lot of it.

I’ve built plenty of apps and things that already existed because I often found that it’s a great learning experience and it’s awesome to have diverging that works exactly the way you want it to. 😊
If your goal is to turn it into something profitable in the monetary sense, I’d hesitate, but if it’s for learning and you can spare the time, go for it! 🥳

to be fair this time it was just a trial that they then didn’t pursue further, which I think is totally fair, but yeah, a bit of a bummer nonetheless. 😅
Being able to schedule notifications for reminders is something progressive web apps just can’t do, it seems like, but I don’t have the manpower to make native apps for all platforms. 😅 Not to mention the restrictiveness of certain app stores. 😅

How will you handle protecting all the content that’s already published? Whether they steal from GitHub or your website doesn’t matter much, does it? 🤔

What’s your reasoning on keeping unlicensed repos public in the first place? 🤔 Sure, it’s nice to learn from code, but if you’re having to jump through hoops to protect your content, wouldn’t it be better to just make them private as a whole? 😊
And another question, for me at least, why would it be okay for the scrapers to steal your source code, but not your other writing? They’re still stealing and it ends up in the same pile. 😅

We’ve been using MS products on macOS for a while now and…it still feels pretty janky most of the time. 😅
