It would be an interesting way to spend an afternoon by looking at what wait times and access was like 50 years ago and whether we would consider that acceptable today. There is also a political angle as you say. Personally, I have zero issue with people getting rich off healthcare provision and making fat profits. All I want is amazing care for my family. Profits may lead to higher costs, but they are historically also pretty good motivators.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 @npub1wcx…xyeu @npub10kc…qjyy I can see that, and dentistry is perhaps an inconvenient example for my argument, but I suppose what I really get angry about is the holding back of quality care until that same level can be provided across the entire system. It does feel a bit like suffering is ok as long as we are all suffering equally. I know that's not completely fair but it does look something like that. I just think we can do better, but not across the whole system at once.

@npub1g0t…tvm4 There does need to be a shift in how we deliver public service, but I'm not sure what the answer is. What I do know from 20 years in public sector and now 15 in private is that guaranteed salaries, gold plated pensions and job security don't seem to result in innovation, bold decision making, or continuous improvement. We need to find a better way so that 'efficiencies' and 'cutting costs' cease to be synonymous.
