@npub1zt3…0v09 I’m glad I got to sew last night too! I flat-felled some inseams and did a remarkably neat job, considering the circumstances.
#seid is basically a new name for #mecfs which, to me, more accurately describes my disease instead of just one symptom. Once I understood it in this context, I was able to manage it much better and get more “good days” in a row. https://dmblog.com/seid But that’s just my own personal experience. I don’t care what names other people prefer for themselves.

@npub150l…r96e I really couldn’t go anywhere right now, if not by ambulance.
I do have several prescription painkillers I can take but my understanding from past experiences is that painkillers don’t work for abdominal stuff? Or maybe I’m confusing that with gall stones? Or is it just morphine that doesn’t work?
I’ll try taking some Tylenol #3.

@npub150l…r96e I vividly remember the pain six years ago got so bad I wanted to die while waiting in the ER with the paramedics for 6 hours. (Canadian Healthcare.) Feeling similar now.
Never underestimate the lengths people with a severe needle phobia will go to not get needles!

How long will I be able to suffer with this excruciating pain before I head to the ER and submit myself to needles? Just over an hour so far…
I recognize this pain and symptoms very well, from six years ago when I had to go to the ER via ambulance and ended up having kidney stones. Hoping I can drown myself in lemon water and just pass the stones in urine, but fuck is it ever painful right now!
And why, if I’m normally a very private person, do I feel comforted by sharing this on Mastodon?!

Just as I thought I wouldn’t get a chance to do any #sewing today, my wife informs me that after we have dinner at 7pm, she’s going to have to keep working until at least 9pm!
I was going to do some sewing this afternoon, but I fell asleep on the couch after lunch. It’s been a bad #SEID week for me, not productive at all.

I’ve learned that in life there is often no definitive right way or wrong way of doing things; a lot always comes down to personal preferences, and your level of experience & skill definitely proves that! I enjoy seeing all your makes, so you’ve clearly found what works best for you, but you don’t need me to tell you that! 😉

@npub1zt3…0v09 I haven’t made a lined jacket, but I’d probably use the main pattern to make the muslin, not the lining.
I have used Swedish tracing paper quite a bit, and continue to use it. You can indeed sew it, but it has always ripped on me, despite being super careful and treating it gingerly during fitting. For a jacket you’ve never fit before, I think you’ll be better off sewing a muslin from fabric.

I’m expecting to lose weight this week: my wife is #cooking since I can’t use my left hand/arm. 🤣
You know that couples communication/patience exercise where one person is blindfolded while the other gives instructions? That’s what it felt like in our kitchen this weekend. It went exceptionally well tbh, but extremely time consuming. Only one burnt meal so far!
For this work week, we bought chicken fingers, fries, fish sticks, canned soups and lots of similarly easy-to-make meals.

@npub150l…r96e I think so too, that medium grey looks best because it allows the fabric to shine on its own without adding extra busyness.
But also the hassle of doubling up is keeping me from accepting it (I’m never this indecisive), so I think I have no choice but to make a trip to buy topstitching thread in this colour. 😉

@npub150l…r96e @npub12w4…3ppq I’ve been watching his stuff on YouTube for a couple months now.
Pro: It’s great that he’s willing to admit when he’s wrong and has given bad guidance; he admits to it and offers corrections.
Con: He’s very new to #sewing, is learning as he goes so will occasionally get things very wrong, but still delivers the information like he’s an expert.
I still watch anyways because the production value is quite high and he’s entertaining, but I keep a mental asterisk when watching.

How many #cooking cutting boards do you have at #home?
I grew up in a family of chefs, including my mom, so we always had numerous cutting boards, each for a sole purpose: meat, vegetables, bread, seafood, fruit, etc.
My wife grew up with a stay-at-home mom who was a “terrible” cook, so she remembers only ever having two cutting boards at home: one big, one small, and they were used for everything/anything.
Two polar opposites. How many cutting boards do most people have in their #kitchen?

Not a New Year’s Resolution, but maybe kinda sorta?
A lot of people are likely setting a goal to spend *less* time on social media this year, but I’m going to try to post more regularly, which means spending more time on it.
I always feel like I can’t/shouldn’t post my own stuff until I’ve had a chance to read everyone else’s (especially #sewing and sometimes #cooking) but I need to start somewhere! For now, I’ll give myself a break and focus only on posting regularly… 😉

The elastic in the waistband was (crudely) attached with a domestic serger, but everything else was either a flat-felled or French seam. Most importantly, you can see that the pocket opening required French seams in order to make felling below the pocket possible… #sewing

@npub1zt3…0v09 @npub1ah7…zkv3 @npub17ll…7f43 @npub12w4…3ppq Flat felling the side seams after the inseams and seat seams are already sewn can be slow and tricky, but still possible. When I made the first few pairs of pyjamas for my wife a couple years ago, I did sew the whole thing with flat felled seams everywhere, and they still look great! But for me, given that they were “just” pyjamas, it was too much fussy work for too little gain. I definitely recommend doing it at least once if you’ve never done it though!

Simple/quick project: #sewing a casual skirt for my wife, but removed the centre back seam from the pattern, tailored/fit it to her body and had the crazy idea to try an invisible zipper on the side seam along with a flat-felled seam… It’s *mostly* invisible, though not perfect, but I’m making notes/instructions to do it better next time. Sure it’s difficult to do at home, but a t-shirt isn’t a proper t-shirt without neck binding. I tried a new method for #sewing neck binding on t-shirts today. I used cotton twill tape for one, and self fabric (modal jersey) for the other. It came out OK for being a first attempt. @npub12w4…3ppq Now I have to finish the rest…
