#Doom idea of the day… I was having trouble picking a label for “classic Doom”, cause there’s so many different editions and flavors.
Anyone got terms for this? My suggestion is “generation”:
Doom Generation 1:
- Doom
- Ultimate Doom
- Doom 2
- Master Levels for Doom 2
- Final Doom
Doom Generation 2:
- Doom 3
- Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil
- Doom 3: VR Edition

I’m putting the finishing touches on my Unity project that loads and renders Quake 1 BSP levels. I don’t intend to add any gameplay features, that’s a slippery slope towards porting the entire engine. So I’m trying to decide what to call this thing. On the other hand Doom is a sci-fi story and universe in my headcanon, and a mostly medieval Doom veers into territory where Quake and Painkiller live. But beggars can’t be choosers, and I don’t see anyone making new Quake or Painkiller games. #doom #quake #painkiller

Turns out some folks actually ported Doom’s monsters and the entire first episode worth of maps into Quake! And it’s a semi-official mod for Quake 1 called “Qdoom”! #doom #quake #mod

Has anyone ported Doom’s monsters into Quake? There appear to be a few ports of Quake content into Doom engines, but I want to go the other way. I’m specifically interested in the 2D sprite characters in a fully 3D world. #doom #quake #mod

Here's a Quake BSP level loaded, parsed, and rendered in Unity using C#. Much to my surprise, getting the lightmaps loaded and UV'd correctly was the toughest part! #gamedev #quake #unity
