No doubt, churches have historically served as community centers but the heart of this article is trying to touch on the importance of communal centers that anyone can intellectually participate in.
Churches, by nature, are institutionalized and have a top to bottom approach of disseminating knowledge.
People go to church for enlightenment from a spiritual source or mentor.
For a brief period in history, coffee houses served as centers for intellectual enlightenment and were battlegrounds for testing/debating ideas. Until that time and there after this only took place in segregated parlors based on class structure or universities and churches where class or institutional hierarchy determined the validity and feasibility of an idea.
I appreciate that there could be and have been really good ideas which generate from churches and I generally agree that communities have degraded over time for a host of different reasons, one among them as you mentioned is the fact that spirituality has all but vanished in local communities.
I'm actually working on a piece right now that delves into community degradation that I'd love some input for if you'd like to DM me!

Im a weird place in life right now.
I know that a big life change is coming in a year that will require me to move but I can't let my employer know for fear that I'll be out of a job until it's time.
Im excited for that move.
Everyday I slug away at my current job I grow more and more resentful of it.
I hate doing things my heart is not 100% in it.

At this time I feel more comfortable with a fedimint approach to ecash. Its very likely a lack of education on the mechanisms that make it possible.
Im torn because I know this is inevitabke the future of bitcoin but its almost contradictory to the core tenants of bitcoin.
I mean I know it's based on sound money still but cashu mints in my opinion are a little risky, no?

Im torn on this. I have family from Mexico and in my opinion Cartels have been one of the biggest, if not the primary reason, that nation cannot grow as prosperous as it's capable of being.
Throw on top of that how the Cartels have been actively affecting USA communities. It's an act of war.
Sad thing is we shouldn't do anything without México's participation or it is tantamount to invasion.

Does anyone know of an marketplace app that you can list items for sale and post that you accept bitcoin? I have a side business of flipping storage units and buying return pallets from big box stores and was temporarily banned from Facebook marketplace place for mentioning that I accept Bitcoin for a discount in my listings. That literally killed my business for almost 2 weeks.
Im attempting to run the business 100% on bitcoin almost as an experiment to see if it can be done and to avoid excessive transaction fees I offer a discount for direct bitcoin purchases otherwise I ommediately buy bitcoin with the revenue made from a sale.
I feel like if I dont post that I accept bitcoin in the listing people think its a scam when I ask if they are interested in a discount for using bitcoin to purchase.

I dont know, I use it all the time at work and my productivity has gone through the roof. Its mainly helped me spend less time on things that only a few months ago would eat up my time like typing up emails and consolidated search.
Im in sales so in addition to what I described above, I also use AI to run a daily training régimen with role plays in various kinds of real life scenarios.
What Im getting at is that AI will only advance further and soon enough many jobs will be threatened by it. We can all see that wave coming. So how can we get ahead of it?
Im not necessarily calling for corporate restrictions but if we made legislation treating AI in a similar way as corporations are treated as a legal entity but rather as a legal entity augmentation that can only be purchased by individuals similar to how education can only be purchased by individuals it might help stymie dramatic shifts in the economy.
Its the genesis of an idea not fully fleshed out yet. So I wanted to see where it could go.

Once a year US Army reservists conduct an annual training to refamiliarize themselves with a combat environment. Everytime I attend my trainings I remember the times when I was in active duty and small bits of nostalgia creep through.

I loved warframe. spent hours playing it with my cousins. when I played back in 2014ish It felt like an online arcade from the early 2000s there was an eerie loneliness to it.
With my cousins in tow we discovered the different crooks and crannies of the "universe" and aspired to get new skins, guns, and level up for new abilities.
The crafting aspect is barnone, it was awesome. but... like any microtransaction game if you dobt pay up you better play up.

Isn't it unfortunate that you just can't quite trust the "experts". I mean an efficient society is one where citizens specialize on particular skill sets and a common trust of the expert is needed. This is what allows for exponential advancements in systems, processes, and technology.

I’ve never been very good at keeping up with my house, even before the kids.
I’d let dishes pile up, but I’d wash them before the day was out. With kids, the dishes just pile up. I eventually get to it when it gets out of hand. The dishes are an illustration of everything else around me. The grass gets cut when I notice my dog enter the house with a bunch of hitchhiker weeds. The clothes get put away from the laundry room when all of my drawers are empty and I can’t find any of my clothes.
Time is a slippery thing for me. I thought I’d be getting more of it back when I made the decision to start my own business. Who was I kidding? Now, when I have a few moments to spare I have to choose whether I want to get ahead on my “honey-do” list at home or lay my head back and catch a breath from my fast-paced life.
It's tough, but I have to make my home a place worth building beautiful memories. I have to show my children, through my actions, that things are worth taking care of.

I don't know, it's a nice way to make into a hyperlink but the interface is jarring.
I know there is work being done to make that better but these links will be the gateway to nostr it might be worth having this as presentable as possible. Not quite client level stuff but at least something less jarring.
Maybe instead of showing all the "under the hood stuff" just hiding it and asking, "want to see what x-person is sharing in nostr click here" to have them then choose a client.

I've tried brushing my tongue (that's a normal procedure when I brush my teeth) and mouthwash. I've tried everything, but after smoking some full bodied cigars it leaves that leathery tobacco scent for too long after smoking.

I'm currently working on an article based on the Tao Te Ching.
I smirk every time I see just how similar each religion is.
There's always a concept of oneness. Very clearly Eastern religions treat this as non-living and living at the same time while Western religions tend to tag on more human-like characteristics to the "oneness"
Either way you see it, the oneness is always there whether its called God or not.

I'm with you up to a certain point. A stock is a piece of ownership in the company and if you get in early during an IPO, it can be super lucrative. Even then owning small amounts of stock is no different than owning an altcoin. People just want the stock to appreciate and if it has a dividend that's no different than staking.
In the end all you can point to is that you still technically have ownership in the business while with an altcoin all you own is....=(

the google definition is: dues ex machina fallacy is the use of a “god-like” character or plot devixe that acts in a way that makes a problem or conflict seem insoluble, and thus forces the story into an unsatisfactory resolution.
Its a VERY common mistake in scifi or fantasy when the author has a complex world.
No one does it intentionally but it tends to happen when the author knows more about the tech and world than the reader (always happens) but fails to descirbe the plot point as common factor in the world and then some how its used to save the day.
In the case of a bitcoin story an audience of bitcoiners might read through the ex machina but an average reader would not.

It's not exactly what you describe but the conflict with the astroid belt people is well played out in "The Expanse".
I think there is great potential in having bitcoin as a world building tool but my honest suggestion would be to really flesh out characters and their motivations. There's always a valuable piece missing to stories with great world building but crappy characters!
There is some juice to squeeze on the philosophical impacts of civilization spanning large swaths of space/time. I mean depening on hiw large the civilization is people on different sides of the civilization literally experience time and life differently.
I would also be careful of the ex machina/ other logical pitfalls that could come out of a story like this, especially when your main audience might be bitcoiners who would quickly identifiy them.
Just my two sats. Thats a long and drawn out way of saying, Id read it!

Does anyone know if Primal is available in Mexico? What do you think is the simplest client/ set up to engage and recieve sats (for an older person less technically inclined) ?
I have a dear friend who lives in Cancun. She is a very talented artist that does everything from paintings to clay sculptures. She is active on Instagram but doesn't have the technical ability (or desire) to start a website where she could drive traffic in order to sell her art. She doesn't make any money at all for her art.
I want to set her up on nostr because I feel she'll at least make some money from zaps. For her, even a small amount of sats will go far in her local economy (Sats to Mexican Peso).
My intent is to set my friend up with the simplest client and bitcoin/lightning wallet to engage the social network side of nostr and showcase her art. She is older and would be using the sats she gets from zaps in the local economy. I plan on getting her a debit card that can link to an offramp/exchange.
I'm thinking primal might be best as it's got a really nice interface and has a wallet already built in. As for the debit card, I might set her up with a coinbase card. What do the people of Nostr think? Is there a better set up? Anyone in Mexico who can steer me in the right direction?
