A gouache painting a did for my husband's aunt recently.
We made it to Greece! We currently live in an empty house, bar a bed and a kitchen table (we expect our things from the US to arrive by boat in a few weeks). We're running from government service to another to get set up with our papers and legalities. We can't wait to be able to relax soon... The view is great from our new home. We can see both the Ionian sea and the Amvrakikos national park.

So far, in this Black Friday period (the biggest period for artists, as people buy Christmas gifts), I had a single sale ($2.32 profit), and it's getting very obvious that this whole endeavor is going nowhere. I will probably completely delete all my social media soon, including that of the fediverse. In the last few months I only used the fediverse and I saw a very healthy follower count going up organically, as it used to be with Instagram a decade ago. But sales aren't happening. I will continue painting (albeit with less vigor), but I won't be sharing or uploading anywhere. There's no point, I don't think.

I had fun painting this one. Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and I love painting such themes. I probably romanticize it in my head a lot due to movies etc, because my Christmases in Greece as a kid were not notable. I had more fun with my husband's family in France. Snow and all. Northern European (I've also lived in UK and Germany in my 20s) and American Christmases felt definitely more Christmas-y to me.
Note: I did two paintings yesterday, one was this one, and the other one was the knight that I posted earlier today. I had to delete the knight one because a cache bug deteriorated the quality of the image after the uploading process. I might post it again in a few months, after I properly scan it, when I have all my gear intact in Greece.

I painted this portrait of an old lady and her dog with handmade watercolors. I love that type of watercolor because it has a very matte, vintage finish compared to commercial watercolors. It's quite difficult to work with it using many layers due to its large particle size (it's ground by hand), but the final feel looks good.

This was the first major illustration I made, back in 2016. At the time I had a booming career doing collage art, but I was getting bored with it, and wanted something more engaging and difficult to do. But then I got some negative feedback by another illustrator I admired, and I stopped painting then and there. It wasn't until February of 2020 that I picked up a brush again, soon after I moved to Spokane, WA and was indoors all day due to snow. In retrospect, I shouldn't have stopped painting.

I'd like to thank @npub1f9f…dgxv for creating Pixelfed. As an artist, for 10 years now I was basing my career primarily on IG, only to see it erode to zero reachability and zero discoverability. IG is a career destroyer now. So when I put all my efforts on Pixelfed, suddenly, I saw growth again! 100 new followers in just 3 weeks! Which proportionally to IG's 0 new followers, given the fewer number of users here, it's a big deal! It feels good again to use social media as it's supposed to be: chronologically, and tag-based.
