Stanley, Black & Decker bought it recently, as part of an attempt to on-shore manufacturing again. The attempt to onshore failed but the quality of badged products isn't dogshit now.

Sears sold it because their preferred method of sourcing tools for the 'craftsman' brand stopped working in the face of competition from cheap japanese and chinky imports. They had like 20-30 tool companies on call who made versions of their products badged with the craftsman name and by the 80s very few of those were left.

Some of their stuff was pretty good. I've still got grandad's wrench and socket wrench set from the 50s. They've lasted longer than my chinkshit set(s) and pre-ww1 germanslop set
