The best thing iOS ever did was the “silence unknown callers” setting. Those automated callback phone harassers just hit a wall and I only find out when I check my recent calls.

The MK party’s rejecting of the election results in South Africa is another early indication of the chaos & corruption they will help entrench in our political system. Calling for a recount when their objection is actually about transmission of the voting tally, not counting, is either stupid or malicious.
Mechanisms exist for objecting to a mistransmission (which are also independently audited) and we’ve had fewer objections this election that last (32 vs 56). No recount needed.

There was this fitness device reviewer who would do these great indeoth reviews of devices by doing this like wearing several of them and going for a run. He was based in the Netherlands and I seem to remember he had “dj” in his name. I can’t find it - can anyone else help me remember?

Bought some Rice Krispies for the kids as a holiday treat. I checked the back - “only 8% sugar” I thought. Then I checked the side - it’s actually 24% sugar. The 8% is the “recommended daily amount”. That’s crazy misleading.

Why are iOS and macOS so bad at prompting the user to install patches? I went to check if Apple had released any patches for iLeakage and found there’s a massive security update from yesterday sitting and waiting. One day isn’t so bad, but if I hadn’t stumbled on it I wonder how long it would have taken. I’m more regularly made aware of patches from blogs and toots or other security software like Duo prompting me than from the OS itself.

I know there’s a general consensus on the fedi to block content from X being automatically reposted here since it wastes scarce server resources. But I’d love to see some X content here from very specific people so that I don’t have to log in to X and repost it here. It’s also nice to be able to tell someone who’s on X that there’s a discussion about their work on fedi to attract them here. Is there a way to do it that respects the server and admins?

Anyone else like this? I run casually for mental and physical health. Usually by myself but sometimes a nice chat with a friend. I’ve never wanted to compete. I did my first Parkrun this weekend and couldn’t not get into full competition mode - nerves the night before, a faster than normal pace on the run, and beating myself up for my performance. I’m glad I did it but I have to stop myself putting together a training plan. In some cases it’s useful, but often it just ruins a good thing.

@npub1hpc…hjn3 for my community I’m seeing an uptick in regular use. I’m seeing more hacker specific content here. Before it was “I’m here now what” style messages followed by “Twitter sucks” messages but now it’s settling into actual use.
