I've also had several support lunchs these last days with friends.

There have been many tether-based designs to bring stuff to LEO. It looks feasible on paper but it's an open question whether it would work in practice. It's certainly a lot of fun to imagine a world with these gigantic tethers.
There are many unsolved challenges:
a) to build it
b) to make it work,
c) to make it cost-effective
And you can't only consider the costs of mass-to-orbit by starting from 30km altitude. You first need to bring your payload from the ground to that platform. All in all, it looks cool but the starship design is really at the frontier of what is currently possible.
Reaching 4% for SpaceX is not just having 1 killer feature that changes everything, it's rather the accumulation of a very significant number of small improvements regarding materials, strucutre, fuel, engines.

I've gone through that experience multiple times. Very frustrating.
Now I only concentrate my orange-pilling energy on a few individuals for whom I think the probability is reasonably good.
For other people, I let them come to me when they're ready (very few have).
There's no real shortcut to walk on this road. They need to accept to reframe their view of the world and leave their bags on the way, it's a lengthy process.

you first gather a lot of data about a topic that matters to you. And then by training a neural network on this data, you're compressing all the information that is embedded in the data. The output of the training is a much smaller set of numbers (weights). By inserting these numbers in a math function, you can now ask questions related to your set of data. The answers won't necessarily be perfect since the data was compressed.
Training a neural network is a 2-step mathematical process where the 1st step is preparing the data (80% of the overall effort) and the 2nd step is going through an iterative process that intents reducing the error rate when compressing the data up to an optimal point.
There are many applications and LLMs like chatGPT are only an example. I was lucky enough to make credit default prediction models with neural networks in a big bank in the early 90s.

- getting fees lower on Relai: yes it's possible, but that's not the baseline situation.
- I knew Relai a few years back too and recommended it to many newcoiners. I discovered bittr only recently and I'm pretty happy with their service so far. Now I'm recommending ProtonWallet and Bittr, not Relai anymore.
- Sure, Bittr is only KYC-light bc of bank transfers, not fully KYC-free. Not ideal but nevertheless better than full KYC imo. And I'm still not sure why Relai now has to KYC everyone.

oh, that's bc they're discontinuing the system they had since when zaps started and are now implementing Alby Hub, which actually gives them a business model to live on. I've not made the switch yet and don't have invites.
Maybe check your strike lightning address to see if there's anything obviously wrong bc I think it should work. Otherwise maybe walletofsatoshi is the easiest solution.

I've also tried to zap your profile instead of the note from Primal, noStrudel and Damus and it doesn't work. I imagine there's something wrong in your config with colincz@strike.me. Damus says 'invalid lightning address'.
It's weird though since I can see the note has been successfully zapped by someone else. I'm not a strike user, idk what are the config requirements.

They've been trying for some time to get #ChatControl approved. It looks like this could be their moment given that the few people who care about privacy and were abstaining or against the law might find this version acceptable in comparison with what's going on in UK and Brazil.
One option will be to move away from EU because there's really no sign that anything is going in the right direction at this time.
Another option will be to stop using the centralized platforms and move towards p2p and decentralized whenever possible. That will mean stopping to communicate with many people who see no issue in what's happening.
All in all, it will mean spending more time on Nostr.

Nostr doesn't need as much relay decentralization as it needs relay replication and resilience. It's a real challenge but it looks achievable.
More work is needed to make relays easy to run and manage, and much more work is needed to make relay management in clients much easier (default+advanced modes).

The New-Yorker example makes sense and I fully agree with the general idea of deflationary technology, but it can't be extended to every product and service. Technology by itself will not make everything cheaper.
Just look at a car made in the 60s and compare it to a current car. Sure, there's a tremendous amount of productivity stolen by inflation. But there're also safety improvements (ABS, airbags, structural design,..), regulatory changes ("safety", fuel efficiency,...), and hedonistic enhancements (AC, better seating, multimedia,...).
The same goes for houses.
The function has not changed though: drive from A to B for a car and shelter for a house.
Eventually, even if salaries had followed inflation, cars and houses have become less affordable for the average family.

Young children are an immense joy but later you might have moments of doubt when your children are in their teenage years.
By then, you're not their source of truth anymore. They'll rather rely on that guy on Tiktok, or on their buddy who dropped out of school or on their girlfriend's uncle. In the vicious culture environment we live in, you can quickly see your children spiraling out of control. It can be tough as a parent because you often feel powerless and you can never be happier than your unhappiest child.
I feel lucky because one of my children has now vigourously bounced back and is doing great as a young adult. But I have several friends not as lucky as me. And my second child has not made it yet to the other side, the jury is out.
All in all, I don't regret a single second having children, it's an incredible adventure, but it can be a very bumpy road.

Btw, in France it's still possible to buy one of the few remaining new Jimny on the market, but while the car will cost you approx €28k, the new special French CO2 tax will be around €30k on top of purchase price. We've entered crazy territory.

Jimny was in such demand in recent years in EU that there was almost a year of delay between order and delivery. Also, it was not possible to choose a color. It would just arrive and if you don't like the color, the car is for the next person in queue.
Earlier this year, Suzuki has stopped selling them in EU because it was too damaging for the EU CO2 rating given that there's no hybrid version.
I guess 2nd hand prices are bound to increase. Mine is certainly not for sale.

I've not tried that and I don't really want to be tinkering with browsers everywhere (I use 2 desktops, 2 laptops and 1 smartphone). I need something easy enough.
I initially hoped that ProtonMail = Gmail + privacy but in its current state and with a big archive, it's ProtonMail = Gmail + privacy - searchability, which is frankly less compelling.
So far, I've moved all communications with banks, shopping sites and private conversations to Proton, but Gmail remains important for the rest and I don't find it handy to need managing both.

I have an account and I love the product.
But the big drawback is that you can't really search full-text in the body of emails because of encryption on server side. And searching in the subject is most often not enough.
I really wonder how people deal with that.
If you don't have many emails in your archive, you can use their web storage full-text search, but that's not scalable.
You can also use Proton Bridge with Thunderbird to import your emails locally and search full-text, but that's not handy through multiple desktops and mobile.
So you're left with over-engineering your email subjects, labeling and folders, which is not manageable.
I'd love to give up on Gmail and go 100% ProtonMail but I need to solve that problem first.

I haven't configured a wallet belonging to an app, like Primal, because I thought it would come with strings attached and complications to use with other apps. NWC arguably removes that hurdle but anyway, I find Alby to be by far the easiest and more logical home for a Nostr wallet that I use with all apps on desktop and mobile.

I'm not using #nos but I imagine that in the app settings you should find a way to connect your Primal wallet through NWC.
I guess it would require you to go to Primal where you would ask to create a new connection for your wallet, it would give you a QR code and you'd scan that QR code from #nos.
I don't have a Primal account but that's the flow that works through Alby to connect Alby wallet to a new nostr app.

getting rid of nicotine adiction is arguably not that hard, it would take at most a couple of weeks. What is *really* hard is getting rid of the habit, and above all getting rid of the associations between smoking and some activities (stress reduction, alcohol, post-eating, concentration,...).
I managed to get rid of it several decades ago, never went back. I used a combination of matches and water. Chewing matches helped me to slowly getting rid of the habit of having a cigarette in my mouth. Then, whenever I feeling a strong urge to smoke, I would force myself to drink 75cl of water quickly. It would fill my belly and and therefore alleviate the urge.
The most dangerous moment is after 6 weeks and after 1 year. That's when you feel confident that you're in control and risk relapsing.

if it's not KYC'ed, I agree it deserves paying a premium on top of kraken and then comparing 1.5% to the regular premium paid on P2P platforms actually make you offering look much better.
Maybe I read you web page too fast, but it did not immediately appear to me that this is KYC free. If that's the case, it might be worth highlighting it a bit more.

I hesitated to go for Ente, I eventually just switched to 2FAS, it's also open-source and easy to use. Happy so far. It's possible to keep a backup in iCloud. Btw, I never scan 2FA QR codes, I copy the token-secret (string) and paste it in first in the 2FA app, and then again in an encrypted file that I keep as 2FA backup. It's much easier when you switch app, and more reliable than recovery codes when you lose 2FA device.

As a young adult feeling lost and misunderstood in my mid-20s, it helped me a lot and later I read it again several times.
