Imagine we've got 100 people in a room, and we roll some dice for each one. When the roll an 8, the person gets put in the "8 group" and when it's 6, the "6 group." Would the two groups kill each other over these similarly, randomly assigned identities?

Beware of politicians who blame vulnerable groups for your problems - they’re the ones not talking about making your life better but about making someone else’s life worse.
Their target may be refugees or a religious group or an ethnic group or trans folks. But whoever the vulnerable minority is, the message is basically the same: you’re supposed to believe that denying these people their rights will somehow help you and your family. It won’t, of course. Don’t buy it.

We’ve learned some ABC journalists, worried about losing their jobs, are deleting their past social media posts in which they shared Human Rights Watch content.
Journalists should not only be allowed to amplify factual human rights reporting, but they should also be encouraged to do so. No one should ever be penalized for it.

On November 9, Israeli airstrikes hit Al-Nasr Medical Center in #Gaza City, cutting off the neonatal intensive care unit’s oxygen supply. The attack forced staff to evacuate the next day, leaving babies that could not be transported alone in intensive care, according to Doctors Without Borders. On November 28 during the ceasefire, doctors were able to return and found five babies dead.

It should not be difficult for a bloc that says it promotes the universal application of international law both to urge the Israeli govt to stop committing war crimes, and to condemn Palestinian armed groups for their killing of Israeli civilians & hostage taking.
Yet, as the EU seems unable to reach such position, it’s up to each member states to speak up for international law & adopt measures to protect human rights & advance accountability.

EU govts have long been divided on Israel-Palestine. The divide has paralyzed the EU, whose foreign policy has to be unanimously approved by its 27 states, some of which continue to offer seemingly unconditional support for the Israeli govt & shield it from accountability.
In fact, European diplomats had to fight to secure even basic calls to Israeli authorities to respect international humanitarian law in their response to the October 7 attacks.
