My wife informed me this morning that our billing system had been knocked offline.
The reason? #Amazon, #OpenAI, and similar bot scraping traffic blew up my access logs to the point of filling that server's entire drive. They're constantly scraping and re-scraping my FreeBSD wiki.

@nprofile…843t personally, I'd have benched it against *both*, with text explaining that the laptop was a bit of a joker, but was included to demonstrate the discrepancy between classes of device.
I used to do the same thing with laptop CPUs and GPUs vs their desktop counterparts, because so many people have absolutely no idea that a laptop i7 is so much slower than a desktop i7, a laptop RTX is so much slower than a desktop RTX, etc.
But yeah, the chart you linked here is wack af.

This was a new technique on me: this (spear?) phisher used a t-dot-co redirect to a blob: protocol URL, which in turn results in Chrome displaying an insecure site WITHOUT the broken lock icon. You only see that the URL is insecure if you manually click the cert info button!

I don't know which of y'all needs to hear this today, but you can sort IPv4 addresses quickly and easily with newer versions of GNU sort: cat ipaddresses.txt | sort -V will do the trick.
This is essentially accidental, as -V is intended to properly sort "software version numbers" but it works like a champ for IPv4 addresses.
Also, stop using nmap just to get a quick list of what machines are occupying what addresses on your subnet. That's what arp-scan is for!

My shower thought is, whether it's an NT dancing to a beat or an ND stimming to an exciting video, in either case, it's essentially a pleasurably overwhelming flood of information.
In either case, we enjoy it more if we engage in repetitive movement while taking in the data.

I was having some shower thoughts this morning, and it occurred to me that stimming is likely essentially the same neural impulse as instinctive dancing to music is in neurotypicals.

Observation: on any other social media platform, it's very unusual to see anyone giving more than, say, one share/RT/boost for every ten likes/faves they give.
On Fosstodon, I'm seeing more like 4 boosts for every five favorites.

I'm probably never going to write the actual article I'd originally intended these charts for. But if you want to see the difference between latencies between #OpenZFS and #btrfs on an eight-drive system that's creating and replicating automated snapshots regularly, here ya go.
We're looking at fio random access, limited to (simultaneous) 8MiB/sec read and 23.0MiB/sec write. The system has eight 12TB Ironwolf rust drives, in four ZFS mirrors vs one eight-wide btrfs-raid1.

Listening to myself talk about SSH keys, as I "proof-listened" the most recent @npub15vr…gzmn episode, I tried to hear it with newer ears, and it reminded me how long it took to grok public/private key infrastructure.
It occurs to me that we missed a MUCH better naming schema. Your private key is just a key. Keys are private by nature. Your public key is a LOCK. Locks are public by nature.
In that metaphor, you install your lock on a server so that your key will unlock it.
