🇦🇷The economic atrocities committed by Kirchnerism in 20 years were only applied (sometimes only in part) by Cuba and Venezuela. No other country in South America did the following:
1. Raise public spending from 20 points of GDP to 46 points.
2. Doubled the number of public employees from 2 million to 4 million.
3. Expropriation of all private pensions.
4. Subsidization electricity, gas, transport and water for 2 decades, sometimes almost the entire bill.
5. Subjection of 50% of its population to social plans.
6. Incorporation of millions of retirees without contributions to the system.
7. Application of astronomic export taxes.
8. Exchange rate cap to restrict access to dollars.
9. Re-establishment of a dozen companies that immediately returned to deficit.
10. Establishing multiple extra layers of approval for imports (bribes).
11. Export ban
12. Price freeze under penalty of fine and closure.
If Argentina did not have fertile land to produce cheap food in abundance, we would have been in a civil war long ago.
What the Milei Administration has managed to accomplish economically in 6 months is nothing short of miraculous, and it's all thanks to shrinking the state apparatus.

100% agree. I'm Argentinian American and it's truly incredible to see the divergence of trajectories of my two countries.
Overall feeling is that "shit's hard, but we have to do this": despite daily life getting increasingly harder, most Argentinians know and realize that we're in the process of ripping the band-aid off. His approval ratings are improving, believe it or not.
We're tightening our belts and cutting down on spending while the Milei administration clamps down on all the corrupt deficit spending by the Kirchneristas.
The barnacles can go fuck themselves, lol. I have to constantly remind myself that Bitcoin is for everyone. One of my content/video ideas is to hold a Bitcoin meetup in a local bar that's named after Juan Domingo Perón. If you don't know who he is, venture down that rabbit hole!

Austrian economist and self-identifying crypto anarchist President Javier Milei will be submitting to Congress a law that will effectively make monetary emission a crime. The BCRA (Banco Central de la República de Argentina) is effectively being legally neutered. Maybe this is how the elimination of the central bank plays out, allowing it to wither on the vine, a death by a thousand cuts.
As much as we would all like to see him nuke the bastards, perhaps this is a legal and political roadmap for other countries to follow. The reality of the situation is that elected officials who adhere to free market economics and libertarian values have to still play within existing political constructs.
I, for one, am looking forward to the post mortem of the BCRA; we're still hurtling towards its elimination, it's just not how I had envisioned it. Much more to come.

Anarcho-capitalist Libertarian President Javier Milei has achieved a fiscal surplus in 2 months as president.
Mull that one over for a minute. In a world where government cronies debase their people's currency to finance political pet projects, Argentina's new administration has effectively done a 180 in 60 days as president.
He's eliminated 50,000 government jobs, allowed another 10,000 contracts to expire without renewal, eliminated 98% of provincial discretionary spending (insisting that they stick to their own budgets), and created a special unit of attorneys tasked with investigating previous government corruption/theft.
Oh, and he's doubled down on his promise to eliminate the central bank while enacting a monetary competition (that will enact dollarization in the near-term, but inevitably embrace Bitcoin in the long-term as people realize the dollar's dying as well).
You're allowed to negotiate contracts in whatever currency you wish, Bitcoin included, and Bitcoin transactions are tax-free.

He's doubling down on his mission to complete his mandate given to him by the Argentinian people, despite having his Omnibus Law repealed by corrupt, inept Congressmen responsible for the disastrous state we find ourselves in down here
Here's the English translation for my gringo brethren:
CHANGE OF RULES
The national government has taken on the responsibility of addressing three fundamental problems plaguing our country: inflation, insecurity, and the privileges of politicians.
We have come to propose a different model from the impoverishing model of the last 100 years. And we came to do it in front of the Argentine people. With the truth in one hand and freedom in the other.
We did not come here to continue playing the same impoverishing game of the usual politicians. We did not come here to make spurious pacts against the interests of Argentines. And we will not be complicit in the game of the same old parasites who live at the expense of Argentines.
The government sent a bill to the National Congress to restore freedom to Argentines. This bill reflects our vision for the country. A free country, where citizens can live their lives without depending on a bureaucrat who demands a bribe to clear an import. The government does not need the law. Argentines need it. And we will achieve it, sooner or later. Because the will of a few convinced is more powerful than that of many without principles or morals.
What happened in Congress perfectly represents the problem we are facing. A group of politicians who will do the impossible to maintain their privileges. The caste. We have been saying this since we got into politics. We knew it was going to happen.
That's why we designed an economic program to exterminate inflation without the need for Congress or any of those who intend to continue living like kings at the expense of taxpayers.
Throughout the campaign, we said that we would send our projects to Congress and politicians would have to decide which side of History they wanted to be on. Whether they wanted to be part of the change or wanted to continue maintaining their privileges. We also said that if they did not support the changes, we would expose them to society so that their dealings, privileges, and corruption would be exposed.
And that's what we are going to do. We will not be complicit in the business of some with the fishing industry, the Tobacco Lord, the oil companies, or any of the other special interests that lobby and "persuade" politicians to defend their interests.
For many years in Argentina, there was a group of politicians who claim to represent moderation, dialogue, consensus, and sensibility, who only guarantee the status quo in exchange for personal business deals. Automobile registrations, lithium concessions, handing out envelopes to journalists, and many other deals some politicians make while "defending the Republic" on television.
All that is over with us. If they have a problem with us exposing what they do, how they vote, and who they answer to, it's because they are not defending the interests of the Nation, but their own.
We did not come to continue with the wheel of politics as usual. We came to break it. We do not care about the operations, the defamation, the newspaper headlines. We do not care about the pressure from those who destroyed this country. We are not playing a game. We do not care about paying the political cost of doing what needs to be done because our goal is to solve the problems of Argentines and not to perpetuate ourselves in power.
We came to change this country. With the same conviction that our May Heroes had, we come to defend The Cause of Freedom.
You will have to choose which side you are on. Argentines already know which side we are on, and we will demand it from them.

The Secretary of Commerce, Pablo Lavigne, recently announced SIXTY NINE (insert meme) new repeals to the bureaucratic fever dream created by the previous Kirchner administrations. It's truly unbelievable how much government overreach was created in the past few years.
The goal of the repeals is to encourage more transparent, less bureaucratic domestic commerce, encourage competition, and to effectively throw off the bureaucratic straight jacket of socialism placed on Argentinian entrepreneurs by the fucking Peronistas who have all but killed off the country’s economy and perverted incentives.
The rate at which the Argentinian economy's architecture is changing is making my head spin and I have zero complaints. I had no idea how apt the chainsaw memes would turn out to be. Bullish AF on Argentina. LFG
Here’s a short summary of just some of the new changes:
-Price controls…AFUERA!
-System for Inspection of Signs and Labels (SiFIRE)…AFUERA! That's right...the government would literally attempt to control small business advertisements.

They’re systemically uprooting all the bloat generated/created by the previous socialist governments, who have destroyed until amounts of wealth in this country.   Today it was announced that over 160,000 food stamp beneficiaries we’re getting kicked out of the program utilizing a hilarious metric: these people were collecting hardship money from the government but they still had the money vacation abroad.   Over $10B pesos a month were being counterfeited and paid out to program abusers. The corruption is being revealed and I would love to see some criminal investigations come out of this because at the end of the day we’re talking about theft.   The Milei Administration is working overtime to right the ship. Typically zero work is being done at the Casa Rosada this time of year, but the legislative initiatives continue to roll out in an attempt to minimize the damage done by the Kirchnerista-fueled inflation bomb that was dropped in their laps.

Pro-Bitcoin Argentinian president-elect Javier Milei seems to be realizing how dire the economic situation created by the Kirchneristas is. "No hay plata" he says with a resigned voice. There's no money.
They've spent it all and then some. Vice-president Cristina Kirchner took a $60,000 flight yesterday for the 30th time during this administration alone, for example.

Not to sound like an alarmist, but if Massa wins the presidential election in Argentina I'm not sure I see a way of the country ending up like Venezuela 2.0; that is, unless he adopts an El Salvador-like strategy of accepting the world's strongest fiat along with the future of money.
Things are by no means perfect in El Salvador, but the financial infrastructure for the country to thrive has been laid in place. The blueprint could be easily copied by either winning candidate, to be honest.
Argentinians would also be wise to study the case study of Ecuador's dollarization 20 years ago. Argentina can convert a lot faster, no doubt.

I remember when I first moved to Argentina in 2009 that the local football club, Club Atlético Talleres, was reportedly selling off air conditioning units in its stadium to keep the club afloat financially.

If you look at apartment buildings you can see the evidence in front of your eyes. Air conditioning units ripped out left and right, sold for cash. Where once every unit in the building most likely had AC, it's now hit or miss.
It's the small symptoms like this that reminds residents of how tough life is becoming under a failed currency. The only people who continue to transact in the Argentinian peso are doing so due to the threat of violence (read: AFIP coming after them).
If the Central Bank is eliminated, or at least the legal mandate to transact in pesos, the country would dollarize over night, regardless of political affiliation. This is why the presidency of Javier Milei is garnering so much attention: they are done living under failed currencies.
They understand the necessity to separate the money from the State. They're Bitcoiners and they don't even realize it. This is why Bitcoin Education in Argentina matters. This is why I've moved back.

If you make the mistake of posting the price of something in terms of pesos, you've really fucked up. For example, in my temporary rental they have a sign posted, "No Smoking, fine: 1000 pesos", which I'm sure was hefty enough when that sign was posted, but now it means that the fine is worth about $1.11 USD.
