We live in a new financial landscape after this past weekend. The very next bank to fail that doesn’t cover all depositors (and mark my words, it will happen at some point), people will immediately grow concerned that their bank might not get bailed out. Suddenly the idea of a digital checking account directly at the Fed will see really attractive. And that’s how a CBDC becomes a reality in the US.

What do my fellow nostriches think of a NIP for getting helpful context on a given npub through character traits ascribed to them by your network? It would be most helpful for the kind of reputation a person earns over time, not something that could be gleaned from a single post.
I had an experience on the bird app the other day where I wondered if someone was a legit authority on the topic or one of those people who’s always an expert on the Current Thing.
Thinking of judgements that attempt to be as objective as possible, with pre-defined traits such as “Trustworthy” and “Conscientious” on the positive side and “Quarrelsome” and “Armchair Expert” on the negative.
The traits someone sees applied to you would be context provided by their own network. It won’t matter what a random, newly-generated npub says about you because no one follows them.

The coupling of identity and authorization to speak as that identity is the #1 problem for nostr. We have to solve it. I’ve tried, but I’m no cryptographer. Gonna need someone much smarter than me.

If I had the time, I’d work on building this:
I’d be thrilled to pay for a relay that forwards my posts to selected public and paid relays AND caches the last few days’ worth of posts of everyone I follow.
That last bit is key.
That’s me paying for my own experience to be great, and it likely ensures the real-time reach of the most popular authors in the network.

Would happily pay a recurring fee for a fast relay that keeps all my events and mirrors my follows’ events for the past 7 days or so.
Paying for everyone else to load my posts fast is good, but the incentives are misaligned. By mirroring my follows I pay for my own experience to be premium, I have a great experience immediately, and ultimately everyone benefits because most people follow a small number of pubkeys. Wouldn’t take many subscribers before the most popular pubkeys are mirrored.

Amazing. Looks like Google, Apple, and Mozilla objected to publishing DID as a global web standard *because it was a bunch of hand-wavy specs*. Even Microsoft expressed serious concerns.

This is exactly the thought I’ve been having lately. We shouldn’t see the inability to exactly recreate Twitter as failure, we should lean into the organic nature of these new systems. People’s real world social networks are small and disconnected. It’s a good thing if no one is experiencing a collective “what happened on nostr today”.

It’s so silly. Lack of key rotation is a solvable problem. DID adoption actually adds a risk by relying on an unnecessary external system for core operation.

For the time being though, just use damus and don’t share with a web app. Never safe to put your private key directly into a web app. Impossible for them to protect it. If the app can see it, a XSS attacker can see it.
