@npub1ykd…6j2y @npub1tv5…0sp7 @npub10f7…cs2t I'm curious in which case exactly you had Burst not compiling a function. This should not happen, except in the rare case you start to use generic abstractions over Bursted generic jobs. Otherwise, yes, Burst Inspector is the place to check if you want to verify that your function is properly picked up.

@npub1ykd…6j2y @npub1pea…t8xj in such scenario, there is often a tension between consistency and usability. For example, someone could argue that if we start to use the * operator for a matrix product, then a vector multiplication should be a dot product to follow the same logic (matrix with a dimension of 1 on 1 axis). It is likely that most folks would not be happy with that decision either and others would not be happy with a difference in treatment if we were doing it only for matrices.

@npub1ykd…6j2y @npub1pea…t8xj The initial decision was to use HLSL so that you could copy HLSL snippet code and it would work almost out of the box. HLSL uses per-component operations for regular multiply operator, so we used that. It makes it consistent with the other types.

@npub1src…fms4 I like a lot what I see in Swift - and as I've been toying with some SwiftUI kind of similar stuff in C#, it gives me a fresh perspective on such topics. I think also that Swift has/will have other pitfalls and it will boil down to other tradeoffs.
So even If I'm being a bit sad to see you "leave" the .NET adventure (as you have given so much, I won't blame you! 🤗), I'm very happy to see you enjoying your new Swift adventure. That's my main take away from your video 💓

@npub1src…fms4 thanks for the talk, that was fun to watch, and I had some good laugh about the slides with the lipstick on a pig 😅 As I'm still giving frequently given such advises. That being said, I still believe that C#/.NET can be great language/runtime to develop games and enjoy it, moreover because C#/.NET has significantly evolved in the past years in the right direction (more performance, ref xyz value types, SIMD...) And there are still GC improvements being made and more to come 🤞
