You assume the case where they'd want to single out a certain user.
It's much more likely they would (have to) apply much more broad/global action - such as enforcing authentication for *all user*. Or suspending Lightning swaps for non authenticated users.
These mints are custodians, and this CASPs (crypto asset service providers)/money transmitters etc under virtually any jurisdiction - who are under these rules required to KYC.
So it's just logical that Marty's asking the state for permission to let them operate. Because by the letter of the law, these mints would not be allowed to operate the way they do now.

Especially since e-cash is not even Bitcoin tech; it's just a protocol to issue tokens. There is nothing that stipulates these have to be backed, let alone backed by Bitcoin.
It's just separate tech. Which happens to be affiliate with Bitcoin due to personnel overlap and two implementations (of many) chosing Bitcoin as unit of account

The website in your blog does not exist. The correct website of the chain's online shop is https://www.edeka24.de but they do not accept BTC (and doubt they ever had).
FWIW, Lieferando.de (known as Just Eat/Takeaway.com in other countries) accepts Bitcoin/LN -- through Buttpay ☹️.
Chances are if you're on a VPN you're asked to log in/register a Bitpay account. Although I had occasions where I just had to provide an email..

Well MiCA (or was it the latest AML directive? 🤔) explicitly states that "any method that obscures the blockchain origin" (i forgot the exact terminology) is deemed illegal.
It's so broad it'll affect Lightning, Liquid, etc

I hear you. But It is one thing to trust the binaries (apk) represent the published code on GitHub;
at least there are people like @nprofile…c385 who check the builds for us.
Yet not even having the v0.2.3 and v0.2.4 code on GitHub, while binaries of these versions are being distributed via app stores for quite some time.... is pretty meh.
At the very least, unprofessional.
And yes, everybody should install from GitHub/Obtainium 👍
PS: I wished more projects publish Dockerfiles for builds, so regular normies can build themselves. The Build process is oftentimes so poorly documented, and/or requires manual steps that it's just a pain in the ass to build apks yourself, so ppl just trust whatever is published.

It's still weird (some would say suspicious) that they produced two builds/apks locally, without even pushing the commits to GH.
And then uploaded the apks to Google Play.

Yes. But you are still not fully immune to force closes; these are part of the LN network and if your channel wants to FC on you, they can - no matter which node you have.
But the recommended channel peers in AlbyHub tend to be pretty good in that regard.

AlbyHub does support several backends (LND, CLN, BreezSDK, Greenlight, Cashu etc) - but it also come with its own embedded node (using LDK), which is the easiest nntaleb way to start for fresh users. Just deposit on-chain funds, press Open channel and off you go. Or alternatively, purchase an incoming channel from an LSP

Hmm, I was able to sign into Amethyst, and browse, open DMs etc.
But in the ntfy app, where it did automatically create the subscription, it also just says "Connecting..."
Is there any specific way to test it's doing what it's supposed to? I literally learned Amber + ntfy .. and have little clue what to do

Yes, ntfy. Alright figured it out. Here are the steps:
1) Install ntfy from F-Droid
2) If you have already done so, and there are entries that are of the form ntfy.sh/xGH... ➡️ Delete them
3) In ntfy app > Settings > Default Server: change to your self hosted url (e.g https://ntfy.mydomain.tld)
4) In Amethyst, log in with Amber, and follow the poop up steps. The process will make the ntfy app to create a new subscription, but this time to your server (not ntfy.sh)

The one thing the absolute vast majority of end users want is relevant Content Discovery.
And it's exactly where Nostr sucks the most (a new user dl Damus or Amethyst will see the Global feed, just find spam, and leave in 5min)

It's arguably very hard. How would someone not an expert on Nostr understand where to publish their notes to to be discovered by their intended followership vs where to Read from, and where to Search for etc.
If you want to make sure you are not missing sth/are bing missed then the rational safe option is simply to blsst to as many big relays as possible, and read from as many as possible. It's just the network effect.
I don't see any careful relay curation strategy can live up to that (beside it being totally impractical as there are many less than 50 ppl worldwide who have the knowledge and skills to actually make it work)

Having set up an own AlbyHub (on Desktop), I was still required to create an getalby.com account which i didn't have. I had thought that "AlbyHub" gives me essentially a self-hosted version of the getalby.com - which I can run under my own domain.
So the stack is as follows (plz correct me if I'm wrong!):
1) getalby.com Account is always required. This acts as the "management UI" of my underlying hub
2) Alby Hub: that's the backend server my mandatory getalby.com Account connects to (through NWC). I can self-host, or use the alby cloud one.
3) LN Node: that is funding source beneath the Alby Hub. Can be bring-your-own-node (LND, CLN, phoenixd, any node via NWC ), embedded (LDK), external (Breezsdk, Greelight) and connects via the methods the my chonse implementation supports: gRPC, REST, NWC etc.
If so, then I know where my confusion came from. My natural association with the term "Hub" is essentially "management UI", i.e. 1).
What you call "AlbyHub" , I would call "Alby Server".

It's the same as hosting my blog, my own YT etc. It's the only way to be self-sovereign, but with no reach and unlikely to be discovered.
We had open protocols before to access dispersed self-sovereign notes and blogs (RSS), yet it failed to catch on and people gravitated to the big platforms Medium, Substack etc.
Nostr is also essentially the set of "relevant" central relays which everybody subscribes to to find and be found. We trust them to continue to behave honestly.

LOL. Bitcoin has some 10,000 nodes, which all constantly replicate all data amongst each other.
With Nostr I publish data to a set number of relays (11 in my case), and the data is not rebroadcast. If they delete it, it's gone forever (and I dont even notice)

Great no one can alter my notes, but they can be suppressed by the relays or deleted altogether. I really have no guarantee that what I want to tell the world, can be seen by the world; I have to trust that some unknown operator(s) will be so kind to serve it.
If I want to make really sure stuff exists and is accessible to everyone (e.g. my blogs Git repos, Shopstr listings, etc), then I am back to self hosting.

1) Every project seeking collaboration should have a CONTRIBUTING[.]md page with guidelines.
You wouldn't believe how many people are struggling with and are afraid of the basics:
Do I need to fork first? Should the change be a branch on my fork, or on master? How to do a proper PR? Etc
2) Maintainers should provide Good First Issues on GH , well scoped, with clear description and what's expected (DOD), and (most importantly) hints/instructions how to get started to encourage
3) These would ideally by encouraged by bounties (sats)

Afaik (I'm not an expert here), Apple pay/Google pay et al generate a device specific Device PAN (essentiy a fake Id) of your card, and they only transfer a token to the merchant. I.e. the merchant does not see your actual card number, nor who you are. Apple/Google of course do..
Merchants can track DPANs to e.g. identify recurring purchases of you (without knowing who you are). But the same Credit Card on different devices will generate different DPANs...so you could add your one card to diff wallets to throw off the tracking a bit (not very practical though)

Sad to hear this. Mutiny has been prime on what what is currently possible in Lightning on mobile. If they couldn't sustain it without going custodially, i doubt anyone can.

Phoenix, while being a great wallet/service, market dominance is not healthy.
For instance, they know balances (and when they pay/get paid) of all their user's nodeIds - and once you share an invoice or BOLT12 publicly they can now tie it to your social.
We should not put so much trust into one entity (even though they have been a good actor so far)
