oh, forgot to mention, zstd compression levels range 1-19 (further, yes but via extra option)... but guess where modern servers perform the best (best defined as ratio of compressed file size to bandwidth/sec)...
welp, it's zstd-1 and occasionally zstd-2. higher compression levels than that and the performance trade off in relation to file size is generally wasteful. but wait, what about if we use hardware compression accelerators... sure, and the result is the same but with higher bandwidth.

Contentious statement, maybe, but this comes up so often that it makes me wonder how the same problems persist over decades...
FreeBSD's pkg system is superior in every way to Debian's apt package system. How often does apt crap-out from dependency failures? every day it seems. FreeBSD pkg... never had those issues with binaries or ports in >20 years. :freebsd_logo:
makes me wonder, do people just never branch out to see alternate solutions and methods for implementation - instead just assuming that their reinvented wheel is always the best? that's some fanboy scheiß if so :tux:
and to the fanboys ahead of time, I've run many a private apt repo for large orgs, and build perhaps too many debs for sanity sake; I know how the systems work, it's just not a good implementation compared to others (even in linux world there's dnf and portage to show this is not a flame on linux specifically, just apt. apt sucks.

wanna know why western democracies consider sleep deprivation to be a form of physical and psychological torture?
after a certain point even the strongest of minds will capitulate, they will fold, and they will admit to whatever is demanded just to be able to rest. they may have no recollection, no memory, nor cognitive capacity to comprehend the passage of time... the brain eventually shuts down non-critical functions, leaving only the autonomic nervous system to maintain its most basic functions.
they'll give you five minutes that feels like an hour, six that feels like a month, but never truly rest, prodded back to the conscious realm to simply say, "yes... yes, yes... just leave me be..."
what may remain of those scattered memories? just rest your head little one, and you may see, in the mind's eyes, that nothing ever changed... "WAKE UP! five minutes!"

today I will acquire a hand-clicker thing, which will follow me around to log the absurd number of times per day which require Yet Another 2FA Code*
sure sure, there are passkeys or passcodes or passcerts or whatever #infosec is calling Yet Another Annoying Password. I understand the security requirements; this isn't a technical problem, it's a "Screw Your Context Switching!" situation that really messes with people who have ADHD or cognitive limits for short term memory and/or focus/distraction conditions.
I have Bitwarden, I have DUO, I have 2FAS, I've used nearly everything on the market in recent years and they're all at least partially terrible.
