It is difficult, but if we can’t organise doing it in a manageable fashion, ultimately all that oil and gas can be turned off permanently in less than a minute at a wellhead somewhere. It’s a lot easier than trying to stop deserts, storms, or sealevel advance.

All the hydrogen economy stuff will be useful again when we’re colonising the Moon. Terrestrially, not so much; but it does sound better than ‘ammonia economy’ which might be a bit more practical.
Fusion will get there eventually, but not in any timescale that will help with the transition. It would be ironic if in fifty years time it is finally available, but puts off everyone who’s grown up with familiar comforting renewables.

I wouldn’t quite agree. Our example, at least since, say, 1945, shows that you can have an appointed leg chamber that isn’t corrupt albeit imperfect. More recent events have also shown it’s not at all intrinsically stable, lacks any control feedback, and is easily corrupted.
Hence, when you cry ‘Abolition’, most people’s memories say ‘oh, it works ok, why bother’.

Yes, theoretically, the Lords could introduce their own bill for cleaning out the last five or six years of corrupt elevations. But they won’t, so they’ll all have to go.
