Platforms like Telegram, Rumble, etc, and others for their niche like Gab, and pseudo decentralized like Mastadon, are being hunted from the looks of it.
Looking at those, #nostr is the strongest in terms of combating these hunt campaigns, however, there still needs to be improvements in regard to actual deniability.
Relay operators will be the targets of a Nostr attack.
From my POV, here's what needs to happen:
- For relays to somehow not know/gather IP addresses of users.
- Every client should be a relay operator (WoT to decrease load and spam resistance).

The core functions of the project is working and live (Nostr login, publishing game mod posts, viewing the posts, and viewing a list of published game mods). That's why I submitted the project today.
More features/systems, as well as replacing those placeholders, will be added over time.
To answer your questions...

Video game mods and their creators are being censored and banned on mainstream hosting and discovery platforms, as a result, DEG Mods, being built on Nostr, solve this issue by not being able to censor or ban mods and mod creators.

# # # Here's what generally happens in the video games market:
1. A video game gets released.
2. Some people with some dev skills modify the game, packages it, and shares it with the public so that they can download and install said modifications to enjoy the game in this modified state.
So we have game mod creators and game mods.
# # # Here's the issue that promoted the creation of DEG Mods:
1. When a mod creator wants to share their creation, they'd create an account on main-stream game mod hosting sites, then upload their game mod there so that others can discover it and download it.
2. Some of these mods get taken down by these mod discovery hosting sites, and ban the account of its creator, because of ideological reasons. Both parties, the mod creator and its consumers (gamers) are pissed.
3. Some potential solution sites were developed, but they were still built on top of centralized systems and still controlled with a small group of entities, with the potential of pushing their own ideological control.
4. DEG Mods came to solve all of these censorship issues by being built on top of Nostr. As a result, even I as the project's creator cannot take down a published game mod page nor 'ban' its creator, where I can only hide it from the site, yet it still can be accessible on it, and on other future forks of the project that may get released.
5. Considering that it's a Nostr project, even if a threat comes over and takes down the project (takes over the domain, repo, etc), so long as someone has a copy of the code, they can run the project locally and/or upload it to a different domain.
6. The extra benefits include:
6.1. Never losing the connection between mod creator and mod enjoyed (following each other).
6.2. Direct financial transfer between mod creator and mod enjoyers (Zaps)
7. DEG Mods doesn't host the video game mod files. Its creator uploads it wherever they want and they'd share the download link in the mod page/post in the appropriate field. In case the file gets deleted/censored, they'd simply upload it elsewhere and edit the published post with the new link. In the future, Blossom servers and/or better file-hosting solutions will be provided as an option.

People talk about how toxic twitter is and how nostr has good vibes.
#twitter can be positive, and #nostr can be toxic.
Why and how? We're dealing with people here =P
This is not absolute and I haven't seen it that way, for both of these things, before I joined nostr and now.
My experience on twitter is a positive one, on my personal account there since years ago (about 90% + part of the time). How? I just decide what to see on twitter, using the tools i have to personally moderate what I see.
See I person I like their content? I follow them. They start being shit? I unfollow them. They're annoying me? I block them. People I follow start posting about stuff I don't like every now and then? I use the filter system and put keywords so that my timeline doesn't show me posts with these words.
That's about it. As a result, my experience on twitter on my personal account for years has been positive vibes for most of the time.
Toxic people can start coming into nostr and start being toxic. What will I do? The same thing as I've been doing on twitter. It's not an issue.
The reason why I'm here on nostr isn't because of the positive vibes, it's because of ownership and censorship resistance. I can say "learn to code" and not get "banned" =P (as well as more moderation options as well of course + it being more than just a social thing).
Don't think nostr can't be toxic. It can and will (it already probably has bad eggs in it).

ok... question, how would you know who's bob and who's alice and how would they know each other? is it, i'm assuming, to meet up someone in a public square (digital or physical) and connect through a new address from the seed? (and in terms of restoring the seed account on a new device, like in bitcoin, it would scan your seed addresses to certain limits to find if there is chat messages sent or received between people?

If I'm a relay operator and I don't want to die, here the future I want to see:
- Client A, B, C.
- Client A and B have implemented an Ads NIP, but Client C didn't.
- User X has enabled to view ads.
- User X has saved my relay to read/write from it.
- User X used all 3 clients.
- User X will see ads in Client A and B, but not C.
- My relay would service User X in Client A and B, but not C (it wouldn't fetch from it or write to it).
- When User X sees an ad in Client A or B, said clients would receive a percentage cut from the budget sent out to run that ad, and my relay would receive a cut, and the User would also receive a cut.
- User X disables viewing ads in his metadata.
- User X cannot see notes from my relay anymore, from any client, regardless of if the client has implemented the Ads NIP or not.
With this, i'd also try to support as many content types as I can without going into the red, but I'd also have a block list to block clients that implement the Ads NIP but hide ads, or present them unreasonably.

That's a UX fix then.
I think Instagram used to have that, and I actually appreciated (maybe twitter too? I forgot).
Basically: You keep scrolling in your feed until you reach a point where there'd be a UI line telling you "You've already seen posts past this point", and when I've seen that, I'd usually stop and go back to the top.

Jack and OpenSats are a single point of failure.
Community funding is also a single point of failure.
Let's be honest, with the solution being that relay operators and client developers need to get paid through the market systems, the general public doesn't want to pay to post, to like, to update their profile, etc. Plus, a new user doesn't have Sats, so ya that's dead right there.
What are the options?
Subscription packages like what Damus is doing?
Putting donation buttons everywhere?
Selling merch?
Selling NIP-05 names?
Listen, those are all fine and all, but there's one annoying solution that solves a decent chunk of this problem. You know it, I know it, everybody knows it: Ads.
Ads on #nostr , properly designed and developed, would be the best digital ads system in the world for all parties involved, in comparison to current ad systems, where it can go from annoying to feeling neutral about it, and this would also onboard an incredible number of people to Bitcoin as they wouldn't have to 'pay' to get their first bitcoin, they'd just use a nostr client and at some very early point in their usage they'd suddenly have a few sats because they saw a few ads as they scrolled through their timeline.
If no one develops this by X time in the future, I'd reach into my backlog of ideas and at least design and plan this out, where if the opportunity arises it would get developed, but hopefully someone does it way sooner.

I wonder how a #nostr version of Steam would be.
I'd imagine it'd be something along the lines of what I'm making with @npub17jl…825x , but the core UX and seller issue, more so for a Steam version, is how to handle up to hundreds of gigs of files per game and handle that bandwidth.
Perhaps there's no escaping for the end user needing to pay to download the game, and the dev having to pay for hosting (either renting a server or running their own).
Though thinking about it, to alleviate these pain points, a good system with a smooth UI/UX would have it where the potential store/platform would visually present cut percentages that need to go from a game sale to server rent, how much sales he needs to make, best suggestions, etc, based on the file size of his game, and it would get updated automatically as the package increases or decreases in size.
The server cost mentioned above would also calculate the potential total cost of a buyer downloading their game X times, where the developer/seller can set a limit of how many downloads, in terms of gigs, this user can do so for free (ex: consumed 50 gigs out of 1,000 remaining. Cost per gig to download is $0.05).
In terms of who owns games, that's a nostr user signature so no issue there.
So in essence, and technically speaking, in terms of sales, the developer is getting nearly 100% of the revenue from a game sale, but they're eating up the costs of hosting and managing their game.
In terms of who's hosting the platform for this Steam-like, they can put 0% regarding taking a cut, though that seems unrealistic if developers and gamers are expecting site maintenance and improvements, however, considering the above points where the dev is eating up the costs, I'd say the site/platform can take anywhere between 1% and up to 5% per sale.
Thoughts?
(I haven't even thought of online multiple game servers =P )

Ah ok, if that's the case, then I think this is a better UX (along with being more decentralized), all the while giving more control (in a sense) to users, in comparison to manual input of multiple relays or random auto relay setup, right?
Instead of me adding 10 relays, I can add 1 hub (or 2 just in case) that I like, and those hubs can do the work for me in terms of the relays they aggregate, and they can add however many relays they want for maximum decentralization.
This got me thinking, i'm assuming this is what you meant with "expose their local nostr-relay-tray", is that a hub doesn't have to manually add relays, but keep listening to relays that want to expose themselves hubs/aggregators and they'd be automatically added.

As a user, I'd just input 1 hub link, I publish an event to that hub, and the hub sends that event to a bunch of relays (that the hub manager has added).
Did I get that right? or is this something for relay managers and not end-users?

No login, registration, useless other processes to go through to get what i want.
Search -> Install/Update.

I'd imagine how it'd work is based on zap amount and number of zaps, of posts that the user tags it as a community note, and these notes would be visible under a tab next to replies "Community Notes".

Absolute GigaChad "Merlin" being the first backer and dropping a massive 800k~ sats towards the development of DEG Mods.

Would be funny if there's a nostr client that has, during registration, a filter question "Are you pro or anti free-speech?" and the options are (pro/anti/pro-but...).
If they select "pro" then the client behaves normally,
but if they select "anti" or "pro-but..." then the client/app would put their npub on a list and lock them out of the relay config page, only have them post and read from one relay owned by the client, and if they say bad words then the client would lock that npub out of their relay (and any other relay through from their client) and show them a message "you've been banned".

I got fed up with game mods being censored and their creators being banned, so it's time to liberate game mods.
Introducing DEG Mods, a space for creators to present their game mods, to not be censored or banned, and have fans always be connected with them. Mod and game in peace.

Here's a very valuable feature in terms of UX for #nostr clients, imo:
Consider that actions on nostr are final, clients should have a "cancel this action" / an x button for actions, that would be on by default.
Let's say the default value for this is 3 seconds.
This would make it so that, for example, if I accidentally liked a post, then I have 3 seconds to unlike it before it actually sends the like activity to relays.
In the options, I can either disable this or increase/decrease this value (less than 3s or more than).

I get where you're coming from. While I prefer not to, it would definitely help. Here's how I'd go about it if I'd implement such a system:
Create a nostr acc:
- Email
- Password
- That combo creates a keypair and logs u in (the site/app handles this)
- nsec/npub is encrypted with that same password, and the file is sent to the email provided (to prevent email host or others to get their hands on it).
- Alt: Sign in with Google or whatever. Same steps.
Side note: Still hoping for a wallet-like app for Nostr (HD nostr accounts) =3

Ya.. Turkey is also one of these countries that it's not easy working remotely and getting money transfers normally.
I'm pretty thankful my salary for the past few years has been in Bitcoin/crypto.
When I get paid, I just use binance to p2p trade to lira and it gets sent to my local bank account and service account.
And speaking of that, I was using Wise but apparently it won't work anymore in turkey as they sent an email a week ago that pretty much all Turkish accounts can no longer do almost anything on Wise, so sending and receiving money with my friends outside is not an option anymore, unless. I have to travel elsewhere and get an ID to base my Wise account there to return to normal operations.
Turkey and other similar countries I'd hard to live in, at least in this sense.
