according to Wikipedia curses dates to 70s/80s (ncurses itself is was initially released in 1991 according to Wikipedia) but is nothing like the Borland tools.
The form and menu libraries in ncurses was added in 1995 (according to ncurses FAQ) those might be aesthetically similar. I can't find a screenshot of them.

Is there any interesting writing on what I conceive of as "the Borland aesthetic" ?
The gray frames. The blue backgrounds. Menu text with the red letter indicating a hot key. Modal dialogs with drop shadows.
According to Wikipedia 2.0 in 1987 was the first blue screen version of Borland Turbo C.
Did Borland originate this?
